Job Description
Summary:
The Metal Shop Supervisor provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all metal shop activities on a designated shift. This role is accountable for driving production throughput, implementing continuous process improvements, and ensuring all projects meet rigorous customer deadlines and quality standards. The Supervisor exercises direct authority over Metal Shop Leads and Metal Shop personnel, ensuring that every product aligns with precise client specifications and internal quality controls prior to shipment.
As a primary leader on the production floor, the incumbent manages resource allocation, is responsible for shift safety, and personnel development to maintain a high-performance culture. While this is a non-exempt role with standard 40-hour work weeks, it requires a high degree of flexibility to accommodate mandatory overtime, including evenings and weekends, to meet critical production milestones. The supervisor will be assigned to either the first or second shift operation. Supervisors for the second shift will earn a $2.00 shift differential.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Team Oversight: Lead and mentor a team of Metal Shop Leads, ensuring strict adherence to company policies, operational procedures, and safety standards.
- Performance Accountability: Evaluate the performance of assigned Metal Shop Leads and contribute to the formal performance management process for the Metal Shop team, including the final review of evaluations for metal shop technicians and support personnel.
- Talent Development: Identify specialized training needs and skill gaps within the team, facilitating professional growth and cross-training initiatives.
- Talent Acquisition: Direct the recruitment and onboarding process for new hires, ensuring successful integration into the production environment.
- Continuous Improvement (Lean/Process): Design and execute systemic enhancements to production workflows, specifically targeting project tracking accuracy, productivity metrics and execution speed.
- Facility Optimization: Review and propose configurations to the physical floor layout to optimize material flow and maximize production efficiency
- Quality Governance: Lead the implementation of quality control programs to support company initiatives and goals.
- Asset Management: Establish and manage comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to ensure maximum machinery uptime for the department.
- Safety Compliance: Conduct mandatory safety briefings and exercise direct authority to enforce OSHA standards and internal safety protocols.
- Site Stewardship: Manage facility security by overseeing opening and closing procedures and ensuring site-wide safety during the assigned shift.
- Operational Reporting: Maintain rigorous documentation of production metrics, including labor hours and output quality, to deliver formal reporting to the Metal Shop Manager.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with interdepartmental teams to align metal shop activities with broader company goals and identify growth opportunities for the department.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum of 4 -5 years of experience in a manufacturing and production facility in various roles.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience .
- Hands-on experience with hand and power tools, measurement devices, and reading blueprints.
- Bachelor’s or Technical College degree in a related field, which may include Electrical Power, Computer Science, Business, or Engineering, a plus.

- Precision Tooling: Proficient in the use of hand and power tools with high accuracy. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Measurement: Calipers, scales, rulers, and tape measures.
- Fastening: Impact guns, torque wrenches, gear wrenches, and both metric and standard socket sets.

Supervisory Requirements
- This role supervises assigned Metal Shop Leads and Technicians.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- This role is a non-exempt role, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays)
- This role is located at a facility on the production floor.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
- Manual Dexterity: Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to twenty-five (50) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.
- Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
- Travel: Availability to travel, as needed, between multiple manufacturing facilities and/or client sites. Valid driver’s license required. Some travel will require overnight stays.
