As they continue their expansion across Japan, they are seeking an accomplished Area General Manager / Account Director to lead operations, client engagement, and business growth across a major data centre portfolio.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a proven strategic operator with experience managing large teams, complex contracts, and high-value technical environments. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and sustainable business growth across the Japan region.

About the Role

The Area General Manager / Account Director will oversee the end-to-end management of a large-scale contract or multiple client portfolios across Japan, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery, compliance, and commercial performance. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and work closely with senior leadership to develop customer relationships, drive innovation, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day delivery of contracts across Japan’s data centre portfolio, ensuring operational excellence and full statutory compliance.
• Oversee financial performance, KPIs, and growth targets while maintaining sustainable profitability.
• Build and develop long-term client relationships, ensuring service excellence and satisfaction.
• Develop and implement strategic business plans aligned with company and client objectives.
• Lead and mentor operational, contract management, and support teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and performance.
• Drive QHSE initiatives, promoting continuous safety improvement and operational integrity.
• Ensure compliance with all governance processes, policies, and reporting requirements.
• Partner with business development teams to identify and secure new opportunities.
• Support contract mobilisation and transition activities, ensuring alignment with client and company expectations.
• Oversee supplier management and procurement performance, ensuring quality, value, and compliance with preferred supplier frameworks.
• Manage workforce planning, performance appraisals, and succession planning to support business growth.
• Lead by example, embodying company values and promoting a culture of service excellence and innovation.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven leadership experience managing large teams across multi-site or national operations.
• Strong background in data centre or critical environment management, with experience overseeing P&L accountability.
• Deep understanding of contract management, operational governance, and financial control.
• Track record of building and maintaining senior client relationships.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at executive level.
• Experience leading within matrixed global organisations.
• Commercially astute, with the ability to identify opportunities for growth and operational optimisation.
• Excellent presentation and reporting skills, with fluency in English; Japanese language proficiency advantageous.
