Location: Project Site (full-time on-site, Buffalo, NY)
Reports To: Project Superintendent
Status: Full-time, on-site, exempt
Salary Range: $95,000 – $135,000 (commensurate with experience)
Position Summary
The Assistant Project Superintendent supports the Project Superintendent in directing daily field operations. The Assistant Superintendent acts as a delegated supervisory representative — approved by the Owner and Owner's Representative — to receive and execute instructions in the Superintendent's temporary absence. This role is intended both to extend field coverage across the site and to develop into a future Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Superintendent in directing and supervising daily field operations across assigned areas or trades.
- Serve as the on-site supervisory representative in the Superintendent's temporary absence, with authority delegated and approved by the Owner and Owner's Representative.
- Co-lead and document daily POD meetings; maintain three-week look-ahead at the trade level.
- Conduct daily site walks; identify and correct unsafe conditions, quality deficiencies, and schedule risks.
- Coordinate subcontractor manpower, deliveries, lifts, and temporary facilities for assigned scopes.
- Maintain daily reports, progress photos, manpower logs, and equipment-on-site records.
- Verify installed work against contract documents and approved submittals for assigned scopes; track and close out deficiency lists.
- Support 3rd-party inspections and AHJ code inspector coordination.
- Track subcontractor compliance with OSHA 10, prevailing wage posting, certified payroll, apprenticeship ratios, and facility ID requirements.
- Support punch list, commissioning coordination, and closeout activities.
- Be reachable via GC-provided mobile device for project communications.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5–8 years of construction field experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant superintendent role on commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (current).
- First Aid / CPR / AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- Working knowledge of NYS public works prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements.
- Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Project (or P6), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and civil drawings and specifications, including BIM/Revit coordination models.
- Ability to obtain facility identification and pass any required background screening.
- Valid driver's license.
Qualifications
- Prior experience on a SUNY, ESD-funded, or NYS public works project.
- Mission-critical, data center, or higher-education construction experience.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent trade background with progressive field leadership.
Working Conditions
Full-time on-site at the project location. Active construction environment with exposure to weather, heights, noise, dust, and heavy equipment. Standard 40+ hour work week with extended hours, evenings, weekends, and emergency availability as required.
