Assistant Quantity Surveyor £35,000 – £40,000 Per annum depending on experience + Fantastic Benefits | Permanent\nLocation: Cambridge\n\nAssistant Quantity Surveyor – Job Specification\n\n Location: Cambridge\nDepartment: Commercial\nReporting to: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor\nSalary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum + Benefits + Annual Bonuses \n\nAbout the Role\n\n As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across all phases of construction projects. You will assist in cost control, subcontractor management, procurement, and reporting – ensuring all commercial aspects of the project are managed efficiently and accurately.\n\n Our Client \n\n Our client is a construction delivery partner that works directly with major developers, occupiers, retailers, and logistics businesses. They specialise in managing and building projects from concept through to completion, including new-builds, fit‑outs, expansions, renovations, and reconfigurations, they mainly serve primarily industrial and logistics, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, data centres and ports, with projects also in commercial spaces, retail, hotels and schools \n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nMaintain accurate and up-to-date site records, including photographs and documentation.\nLiaise with the site management team to complete labour allocation sheets.\nParticipate in and lead relevant meetings including design team reviews, progress updates, and coordination meetings.\nReview and approve Purchase Orders following site requests and quote submission from TQS/AQS.\nConduct Technical Review Meetings (TRMs) with Operations for subcontractor packages.\nDraft and prepare subcontract orders for review by the SQS/MQS with minimal errors.\nMeasure, price, and agree on budgets for project variations with the QS/SQS.\nUpdate and report subcontractor liabilities for cost forecasting.\nPrepare and monitor cost projections covering labour, staff, plant, and materials.\nFollow the procurement schedule to ensure timely subcontractor engagement.\nIssue and manage subcontract enquiries in line with procurement timelines.\nEvaluate subcontractor quotes and make informed recommendations to SQS/MQS.\nCertify subcontractor valuations in accordance with agreed valuation cycles.\nPrepare payment notices for subcontractors in line with payment terms and for review by the SQS/MQS.\nTrack and complete the Collateral Warranty Schedule.\nPrepare and submit client valuations to maximise project revenue.\nAssist in initial forecasting with the Estimator for accurate cost/revenue planning.\nContribute to monthly forecasting to report accurate project positions.\nHelp compile monthly progress reporting for external stakeholders.\nEnsure compliance with the main contract and track changes with the Employer’s Agent (EA).\nProvide support and guidance to Trainee/Graduate Quantity Surveyors (TQS/AQS) on site. \n\n Required Qualifications & Experience\n\nBachelor’s Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or related field.\nPrevious experience in industrial or built environment construction projects.\nFamiliarity with commercial and surveying systems/forms.\nStrong technical writing and clear communication skills. \n\n Salary & Benefits\n\nAnnual Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 (depending on experience)\nPension Scheme: Matched contributions up to 6%\nPrivate Healthcare\nLife Insurance Cover\nMobile Phone Allowance\nCompany Fuel Card\n25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays\nLoyalty Leave Scheme: 1 additional day after 3 years of service, increasing yearly up to 5 days\nEarly Friday Finish: 4:00pm every Friday\nDress Down Fridays\nAnnual Christmas & Summer Parties\nMonthly Team Breakfast Mornings\nRegular Team Building Events\nRefer-a-Friend Bonus Scheme\nCycle to Work Scheme
