Principal BMS Engineer – Data Centres & Mission Critical Projects
An established, global engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal BMS Engineer to join its London team. With a strong international presence and a reputation for delivering complex, high-performance projects, the business operates across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on data centres and mission-critical environments.
This is a key role within the organisation, providing technical leadership in BMS and controls, ensuring best-in-class design delivery and supporting the continued growth of the business.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior leadership, you will act as a subject matter expert in BMS and controls, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and specialist consultants. This is a hands-on, strategic role with significant influence across both project delivery and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee BMS design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports
- Provide expert input on BMS controls across projects, ensuring high-quality, coordinated design delivery
- Integrate BMS with systems such as access control, security, fire, and client IT networks
- Attend client meetings, workshops, and design presentations
- Conduct site inspections and witness testing where required
- Review contractor submissions, tenders, and technical documentation
- Mentor and guide engineering teams, promoting best practice and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver innovative engineering solutions
About You:
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Extensive experience in BMS / Building Controls systems, ideally at Principal level
- Proven track record integrating BMS with wider building systems (security, fire, IT networks, etc.)
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and building services engineering
- Experience in consultancy or similar project environments is highly desirable
- Knowledge of sustainable design, low carbon technologies, and modern building systems
- Understanding of IT networking and associated technologies
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented approach
