A leading provider of Data Centre Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Business Unit Technical Manager to oversee technical operations across multiple client sites in London and the surrounding areas. This role is critical to ensuring the resilience, compliance, and operational excellence of complex data centre environments.
The Role
Reporting to the Business Unit Director and Technical Director, the Business Unit Technical Manager will provide senior-level technical leadership and act as the client interface across multiple accounts. The position requires strong expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering, extensive experience in critical environments, and proven leadership skills. The successful candidate will ensure operational performance, compliance, and service excellence across a portfolio of high-profile facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure critical facilities and systems within data centres are operated and maintained to the highest standards.
- Act as Senior Authorised Person (HV), providing technical leadership and oversight.
- Lead root cause analysis and post-incident reviews for technical faults.
- Act as a key client liaison, ensuring service excellence and clear communication of technical processes.
- Oversee routine and reactive maintenance, ensuring compliance with SLAs and statutory requirements.
- Plan and deliver plant shutdowns, long-term works, and contractually committed projects.
- Manage subcontractors, including auditing, pricing, and oversight of works.
- Ensure spare parts and materials are available for maintenance and asset management.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive technical and compliance records.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems, health and safety policies, and statutory legislation.
Candidate Profile
- Electrically qualified with extensive experience in critical environments, ideally within data centres.
- Strong track record in mechanical and electrical maintenance engineering.
- Demonstrated experience as a Senior Authorised Person (HV).
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage teams and subcontractors.
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build trusted relationships.
- Excellent problem-solving ability, including experience in root cause analysis and fault resolution.
- Well-organised, detail-oriented, and committed to compliance and operational excellence.
