About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Buyer I / Procurement Specialist to join a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering team supporting modular solutions projects. This role is ideal for purchasing professionals with ERP/MRP experience who thrive in engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
Projects may include data centers, chilled water and packaged air systems, power plants, and other large-scale industrial modular solutions. You’ll play a key role in sourcing materials, managing supplier relationships, supporting project schedules, and ensuring uninterrupted material flow for production operations.
This is a 6-month contract position with strong potential to convert to a permanent full-time role based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain communication with suppliers from purchase order placement through material receipt to ensure quality and delivery schedules are met
- Monitor supplier performance and develop recovery plans for quality or schedule issues
- Communicate supplier risks, delays, and order changes to internal teams
- Solicit, review, and evaluate supplier quotations
- Support supplier prequalification and onboarding activities
- Reconcile Bills of Materials (BOMs) with planned orders and issued Purchase Orders (POs)
- Coordinate with Configuration Management and Purchasing teams to resolve discrepancies
- Maintain supplier PO promise dates and receipt information within the ERP system
- Assist in resolving receiving discrepancies by comparing purchase orders to delivery documentation
- Track and report supplier performance metrics and assigned objectives
- Maintain strong supplier and vendor relationships
- Expedite orders and coordinate changes to quantities, materials, and specifications as needed
- Ensure uninterrupted flow of materials, supplies, and services required for operations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing department
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of purchasing or expediting experience in a custom engineered manufacturing environment
- Experience working within ERP/MRP-driven make-to-order manufacturing operations
- Familiarity purchasing electrical commodities and equipment
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, purchasing methods, and expediting procedures
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including basic Excel skills
- Foundational knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and purchasing practices
Qualifications
- Infor/LN purchasing module experience
- APICS CPIM certification
- Bachelor’s degree
- High school diploma accepted with relevant industry experience
- Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office/desk-based environment (80–95% computer work)
- Occasional lifting up to 10 lbs
- Frequent sitting, repetitive hand motions, and computer usage
- Ability to read and analyze data, reports, and technical documentation
- Indoor office environment with regular interaction across departments and suppliers
Compensation & Schedule
- Up to $35/hour based on experience
- 6-month contract with potential for permanent hire
- Full-time position
- Monday–Friday schedule
