About Us: Southern Maryland IT Services, Inc is a small but growing company providing infrastructure Cloud deployment support to Federal clients. We have an opportunity to join a team providing support, with the broadest scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, the Cloud Architect has senior-level technical responsibility to closely work with the Enterprise Architecture, Applications, Infrastructure, and IT security teams to build a strategy, and develop an implementation plan to migrate NSF’s data center to the cloud. He/she will serve as the in-house expert in advising senior management in analyzing various options and recommending technical solutions migrating the NSF IT services to the cloud.

Job Responsibilities: The prospective candidate will function in a teaming support role responsible for maintaining the corporate applications environment for the Science Foundation. This environment currently utilizes a number of AWS services, such as EKS, RDS, EC2, and etc.  You will:

·       Make contributions supporting end-to-end Platform application delivery, including Infrastructure provisioning & automation and integration with Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) platforms, using existing and emerging technologies

·       Work both independently with limited supervision and collaboratively on a fast paced team to proactively and reactively manage the on prem and AWS cloud environment

·       Work as part of a small team of about 10 system administrators supporting approximately 500 Linux servers.

·       Work in enterprise environment as it relates to daily, weekly and monthly security patching utiling Satellite and Ansible on Linux 

·       Troubleshoot/solve complex technical problems.

·       Deal with complex customer escalated issues.

 

Job Requirements:

·       Bachelor's Degree or equivalent 

·       1-3 years related AWS Cloud and/or DevOps experience

·       Demonstrated automation and scripting experience ; ability to write cloud formation templates or Terraform scripts a plus

·       Experience and/or exposure to Jenkins for continuous integration

·       Ability to utilize and work with a large variety of open source technologies and tools

·       Demonstrated ability to a problem solving, potentially involving multiple technologies and disciplines

·       Ability to obtain a Position of Trust Clearance

·       Ability to work onsite at the customer's location in Alexandria, VA if required; though 100% work-from-home is the current posture

·       24x7 On-call rotation for afterhours support

·       Nights and/or weekends troubleshooting, maintenance and any other special circumstances

·       Self-starting individual with the ability to work independently on issues with minimal supervision

·       Detail-oriented technical and strong analytical skills

·       Exceptional customer service and follow up skills

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·       Organized and detailed documentation skills.

·       Ability to perform Log Analysis and error resolution is a plus.
