Job Description:
MEI has an opportunity for a Commissioning Field Project Manager to oversee and coordinate multiple commissioning projects for mission-critical data center facilities. This role manages project schedules, deliverables, and stakeholder communications across the full commissioning lifecycle-from planning through final turnover. You'll act as the primary liaison between MEI's internal teams, vendors, and contractors-ensuring expectations are clearly defined, communicated, and met. You will also ensure that clients receive timely updates on schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
This role works closely with Commissioning Directors, Managers and Engineers, who are responsible for on-site testing, inspections, and equipment validation. The Project Manager provides strategic coordination, planning, and oversight to ensure seamless delivery of complex technical projects.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented professional with strong project management experience in engineering or construction environments-particularly those involving power, mechanical, or control systems.
This role can be based in Austin, TX, Atlanta, GA, Phoenix, AZ or Las Vegas, NV.
This position will require up to 50% travel.
Job Duties:
- Coordinate with Commissioning Directors, Managers, and Engineers ensuring alignment across scope, schedule, and expectations across assigned commissioning projects..
- Manage multiple commissioning projects simultaneously across various stages of development.
- Coordinate all pre-functional and functional commissioning deliverables, including schedules, test documentation, scripts, and turnover materials.
- Lead internal and external meetings with vendors, and contractors to track milestones and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with Commissioning Director, Managers, and Engineers to monitor progress, surface risks, and ensure site activities remain on track.
- Create, maintain, and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practice documentation related to commissioning workflows, document control, and communication standards.
- Provide instruction, support, and mentorship to Project Coordinators, ensuring they are aligned with project goals and adhere to established procedures.
- Ensure consistent quality across deliverables and project documentation.
- Maintain commissioning logs, status reports, and issue resolution documentation.
- Review and approve test plans, daily field reports, submittals, and commissioning documentation to ensure compliance with MEI and client standards.
- Track project budgets, timelines, and deliverables to ensure on-time, on-budget execution.
- Support process improvement and standardization initiatives across the commissioning and PMO teams.
- Ensure effective internal communication and alignment with Program Managers for broader project goals and client strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field ; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 5+ years of experience in construction, commissioning, or engineering project management.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-phase technical projects
- Familiarity with commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., UPS, PDUs, MV switchgear, HVAC, BMS/DDC controls, etc.).
- Strong proficiency in project management tools, schedules, and documentation workflows.
- Skilled communicator with the ability to interface across technical, non-technical, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
Qualifications:
- Experience in mission-critical or data center environments.
- Certified Commissioning Professional (e.g., CxA, BCxP, CCP).
- Familiarity with industry commissioning standards (ASHRAE Guideline 0, NEBB, etc.).
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and client-side project managers.
