Role - Commissioning Manager
Location - Plymouth ( Hybrid )
My client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities across complex engineering projects within a high-spec, cleanroom-based manufacturing environment.
This role places a strong emphasis on system commissioning, integration, and operational readiness, ensuring all systems are fully tested, optimised, and ready for handover within a controlled production environment. You will play a key role in the final stages of project delivery, working closely with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless system startup and transition to operations
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee commissioning activities across HVAC systems, cleanroom environments, utilities, and process systems
- Develop and execute commissioning strategies, plans, and documentation (procedures, test scripts, reports)
- Drive system integration, testing, and performance validation to ensure operational readiness
- Act as a technical problem solver, identifying and resolving issues during commissioning, start-up, and handover phases
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, automation, construction, and validation
- Oversee the final stages of project delivery, ensuring systems are fully tested, integrated, and ready for operational use
- Manage commissioning schedules, progress tracking, and reporting to stakeholders
- Review and approve technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Support integration with automation and control systems (BMS, PLC, SCADA)
- Act as a client-facing representative, providing updates and ensuring expectations are met
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and quality standards throughout commissioning activities
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Commissioning Manager or Lead Commissioning role within high-spec or controlled environments
- Strong hands-on experience commissioning HVAC systems, cleanrooms, and utilities (e.g. black utilities, process gases)
- Demonstrated ability in technical problem-solving during commissioning and system start-up
- Experience generating and managing commissioning documentation and procedures
- Knowledge of automation systems (BMS, PLC, SCADA) is advantageous
- Experience within semiconductor, microelectronics, data centre, pharmaceutical, or advanced manufacturing environments is highly desirable
- Excellent stakeholder management and client-facing skills
- Strong organisational and project coordination abilities
