The Cluster of Excellence 3099 «GreenRobust» (http://www.greenrobust.de) investigates robustness mechanisms of various plant species at all levels of biological organization in response to biotic and climatic disturbances. Within the cluster, research teams from the Universities of Tübingen, Hohenheim, and Heidelberg will collaborate. Large volumes of biological data will be generated, whose storage and analysis will be ensured through a modern research data management system.

Computer Scientist / IT Specialist in Research Data Management (f/m/d) Fixed-term until December 31, 2032, with the possibility of subsequent tenure, up to pay grade E13 TV-L,

YOUR TASKS
Development and enhancement of research data management for the Cluster of Excellence:

Establishment and maintenance of repositories, databases, and storage systems for short-term («hot storage») and long-term archiving of research data in collaboration with IT colleagues from the GreenRobust Cluster and the computing centers at partner universities
Management and migration of large data volumes
Development and implementation of interfaces and workflow pipelines for data analysis in collaboration with the researchers of the GreenRobust Cluster
Contribution to software development for integrated data storage and analysis within the research data management framework

Planning, implementation, and operation of IT infrastructure for research data management: User and client management under Windows, macOS, and Linux

Installation/administration of hardware servers and virtual machines (mainly Linux)
Setup and operation of web services (e.g., under Docker), database systems, and file servers, including ensuring server backups
Development and monitoring of IT security concepts and implementation of data protection and compliance requirements
Development of information systems and meta-search tools integrating distributed data sources to provide researchers with unified access
Ensuring quality and standardization, contributing to metadata standards and interoperability concepts
Active participation in consortia such as the NFDI and fostering cooperation with other research data centers to promote and international exchange

YOUR PROFILE

Completed university degree in computer science (e.g., Informatics, Data Science, Bioinformatics) or a related discipline, or in the natural sciences
At least three years of practical experience in planning, building, and optimizing complex IT infrastructures
Profound networking knowledge (security, VLAN, routing, switching, firewall) and strong Linux skills; confident use of Windows and macOS
Experience with virtual environments and containers (VMware, Docker) as well as automated installation/configuration tools
Solid knowledge of web services, server administration, and large storage systems
Experience in project/network documentation, as well as incident and problem management
Strong communication skills, reliability, teamwork, and independence
Excellent command of written and spoken German and English
