Construction Manager - Critical Infrastructure Projects

Location: Richmond, VA (open to providing travel for candidates not near Richmond)

The Role

The Construction Manager will lead and oversee construction activities for large-scale, technically complex projects, with a heavy focus on building controls and critical systems installations. This individual will act as the on-site construction authority - coordinating subcontractors, resolving field issues, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and serving as the construction liaison between project management, engineering teams, and general contractors.

This position requires significant time on active job sites and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily construction activities related to control systems and critical infrastructure installations
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors, vendors, and field labor to maintain schedule and quality expectations
  • Partner with engineering, estimating, and project management teams to develop and maintain construction labor plans and schedules
  • Interpret construction drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation to ensure accurate execution
  • Ensure all installations comply with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements
  • Conduct quality reviews of installed systems and address deficiencies as needed
  • Act as the primary point of contact for construction-related site issues requiring management-level decision making
  • Enforce site safety standards and collaborate with internal safety teams to support audits, toolbox talks, and training initiatives
  • Identify cost efficiencies and constructability improvements without compromising safety or performance
  • Maintain accurate documentation of project progress, changes, and lessons learned
  • Provide progress reports and installation updates to internal stakeholders and leadership
  • Support continuous improvement by helping establish best practices and standardized construction processes
  • Mentor technicians and operations staff on construction fundamentals and field best practices

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience managing construction activities for technically complex projects (control systems, electrical, or critical facilities )
  • Strong working knowledge of construction sequencing, subcontractor coordination, and site logistics
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and control-related documentation
  • Experience working in regulated environments with strict safety and quality standards
  • Comfortable managing multiple active project sites simultaneously
  • Proficiency with scheduling and project tracking tools
