The Firm is seeking a Corporate Counsel (Leasing) to join the legal team. This attorney will serve as the primary legal advisor to the company in all commercial leasing matters. The position will require working closely with senior lawyers and business colleagues while supporting the asset management and general transactions teams. Specific responsibilities of this position will include:Responsibilities:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating LOI’s, leases and lease amendments for medical office, life science facility, data center and retail assets.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating ancillary leasing documents, such as such as listing/commission agreements, guarantees, terminations, assignments, consents, estoppel certificates, subordinations of lien, and licenses.
· Advising the asset management and transactions teams on leasing matters.
- Performing diligence reviews of lease documents in connection with acquisitions of assets.
- Managing and negotiating standard business agreements, such as non-disclosure agreements and engagement letters.
- Overseeing, and managing relationships with, outside counsel.
- Supporting the legal department’s knowledge management initiatives and establishing the general policies and guidelines for leasing documents and negotiation of leases.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- The candidate must have at least 5 years of specialized legal experience in commercial office and retail leasing. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with issues that arise specifically in connection with the negotiation of medical office, life science facility, and data center leases. Prior in-house experience with a mid-sized or large company is , but not required.
- The candidate will welcome the challenges of working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, professional environment where leadership and a strong work ethic are essential. This is a long-term growth opportunity. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication (oral and written), organization and analytic skills are a must.
- A J.D. from an accredited law school and admittance in good standing with at least one state bar, Illinois , and strong academic credentials.
- 5+ years’ experience in commercial office and retail leasing (with specialized medical office, life science facility, and data center leasing a plus) at a top tier law firm, specialized leasing practice or in-house with a mid-sized or large company; prior in-house experience .
- A solid track record of responsibility for independently reviewing, structuring, drafting, negotiating and managing commercial lease documents.
- An ability to analyze, interpret, and present complex legal ideas and concepts in a clear and concise fashion
- Strong organization skills, sound judgment, critical thinking, a practical and business-minded approach and good negotiation skills.
- An ability to engage individuals and teams to ensure timely project completion.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and successfully manage competing tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
For Illinois Only: The expected base salary range for this position is $190,000 to $230,000. Actual salaries may vary based on a number of factors, including skills, experience, and qualifications.
