Pay: $33/hour

Critical Facilities Technician

Critical Facilities Technicians serve in a cross-functional role focused on supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure systems within a mission-critical data center. This technician works under direct supervision of client facilities engineering staff to assist with inspections, documentation, troubleshooting support, basic PM inspections, and compliance tasks across electrical, mechanical, and building systems. The technician also conducts basic facility maintenance tasks involving but not limited to painting, drywall work, cleaning, changing light bulbs, and responding to plumbing issues.

Objectives

  • Provide hands-on support to engineers in maintaining critical infrastructure
  • Develop foundational knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building systems
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance efforts across disciplines with an emphasis on HVAC
  • Learn and follow all safety, compliance, and operational procedures

Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Assist senior staff in monitoring and recording data from Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Monitoring Systems (EMS), and other dashboards
  • Perform data center rounds daily to visually inspect equipment and environments
  • Report abnormalities to Level 2 or 3 personnel promptly
  • Aid in preparing tools, supplies, and materials for scheduled work
  • Assist other site teams with projects including building server rack frames/tables/carts, inventory tracking, project scope walks, cabling, and organizing materials

Critical Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Support routine maintenance tasks under direct supervision (e.g., filter replacement, visual inspections, cleaning of equipment)
  • Escort vendors and monitor work as directed by senior technicians
  • Help track and log maintenance activities using CMMS or internal systems

Emergency Response

  • Respond to alerts and alarms by notifying appropriate personnel
  • Gather basic information and provide assistance during troubleshooting or remediation
  • Participate in after-action documentation and learning sessions

System Monitoring & Documentation

  • Complete inspection checklists, shift handover notes, and equipment logs
  • Assist in updating as-built documents, asset inventory, and maintenance records
  • Help prepare materials for compliance audits and internal reviews
  • Close out assigned projects and follow up with facilities team with completion details

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all safety policies and wear assigned PPE
  • Participate in mandatory safety drills and training
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or policy violations to senior staff

Collaboration

  • Support electrical, mechanical, and IT infrastructure teams as needed
  • Attend team meetings and actively participate in training programs
  • Shadow experienced technicians and seek mentorship to build technical skills

Deliverables

  • Completed walkthrough checklists and shift logs
  • Accurate and timely equipment readings
  • Updated maintenance tracking and asset data

Tools & Equipment

  • Basic hand tools and toolkits
  • Portable meters (e.g., temperature, humidity, voltage – with supervision)
  • BMS/EMS terminals for observation and basic entry
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Radios and mobile devices for communication

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 0–2 years of experience in facility support, maintenance, or technical environments
  • OSHA 10 (General Industry) - optional
  • CPR/First Aid - optional
  • EPA 608 (if assisting HVAC tasks) – optional
  • Internships or apprenticeships in related fields are a plus

  • Adherence to safety and compliance procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
  • Ability to differentiate between -coded warning signs, labels, and cables
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required
