Critical Facilities Technician — Data Center Operations
Location: Chicago, IL
Pay Range: $35–$45/hour
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Shift-based environment; nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required
About the Opportunity
We are looking to connect with experienced Critical Facilities Technicians for data center operations opportunities in the Chicago market.
This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical or electrical technician who understands the importance of uptime, reliability, safety, and disciplined maintenance in a mission-critical environment. You will support the operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of critical facility systems that keep data center infrastructure running 24/7.
Candidates with backgrounds in data centers, critical facilities, commercial HVAC, electrical systems, generators, building automation, industrial maintenance, military facilities, hospitals, or large-scale infrastructure environments are encouraged to connect.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Monitor, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain critical and non-critical facility equipment.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
- Support HVAC systems, generators, plumbing, fire/life safety systems, BMS, controls, access systems, CCTV, and related infrastructure.
- Respond quickly to alarms, equipment issues, emergency situations, and customer-impacting events.
- Execute work in accordance with MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, safety procedures, and change control requirements.
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation through a CMMS or similar system.
- Support contractors and vendors performing maintenance, repairs, inspections, or upgrades.
- Conduct routine facility rounds to verify equipment performance and identify potential issues before they impact operations.
- Assist with electrical, mechanical, and building system maintenance in a high-availability environment.
- Maintain a strong safety mindset while working around critical power, cooling, and building systems.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5+ years of experience in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or critical facilities maintenance.
- Experience in a data center, mission-critical facility, industrial facility, hospital, manufacturing plant, utility, telecom, or large commercial building environment .
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting ability across mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Familiarity with generators, UPS systems, switchgear, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, controls, fire/life safety, or building automation systems is a plus.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, overtime, nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Comfortable following documented procedures, maintenance plans, change controls, and safety requirements.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and work order systems.
