Data Center Construction Project Manager

Job DescriptionJob Description

Role Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Construction Project Manager to lead the development of large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure projects. In this role, you will act as the primary owner for the construction of hyperscale data centers, representing the interests of a global technology leader.

You will manage the full lifecycle of the build—from site selection and design review through civil execution, structural build-out, MEP fit-out, and final commissioning. This role requires a leader who thrives in high-pressure, fast-paced environments where schedule accuracy and zero-downtime reliability are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • End-to-End Management: Lead the execution of complex data center construction projects (Greenfield and Brownfield) ranging from $50M to $500M+ in capital value.
  • Schedule Ownership: Manage the Master Project Schedule, ensuring critical path milestones are met for "First Power," "Ready for Service," and final turnover. Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to prevent delays.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee General Contractors (GCs), subcontractors, and design consultants. Enforce strict contractual compliance regarding scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary liaison between the Client (End User), internal engineering teams, operations stakeholders, and external vendors.

Technical & Financial Controls

  • Cost Management: Own the project budget. Manage cash flow, review and approve pay applications, negotiate Change Orders (COs), and drive value engineering (VE) initiatives without compromising redundancy or quality.
  • MEP Expertise: Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems (e.g., Medium Voltage switchgear, backup generators, UPS systems, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units).
  • Commissioning (Cx): Partner with the Commissioning Agents to oversee the Level 1–5 commissioning process, ensuring all systems function as an integrated whole under full load banks.

Safety & Quality

  • EHS Leadership: Champion a safety-first culture. Review and audit the GC’s safety plans to ensure compliance with local regulations and corporate safety standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Enforce strict QA/QC standards. Ensure the "White Space" (server halls) meets the rigorous dust/contaminant control standards required for sensitive IT equipment.

Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or Architecture.
  • Experience: 7+ years of project management experience in construction, with at least 3+ years specifically in mission-critical environments (Data Centers, Hospitals/Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, or Heavy Industrial/Power Plants).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam).
  • Financial Acumen: Proven experience managing multi-million dollar budgets and complex contract negotiations.

Qualifications (Nice to Haves):

  • Experience building for hyperscale cloud providers or colocation facilities.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCM (Certified Construction Manager) certification.
  • LEED AP certification or experience with sustainable building practices.
  • Direct experience with "modularity" or prefabricated construction methodologies in a data center context.

Core Competencies

  • Bias for Action: Ability to make calculated decisions quickly in a dynamic environment where scope changes are frequent.
  • High Standards: Unwillingness to compromise on quality or safety, understanding the "always-on" nature of the facility.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and resolve conflicts between architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines in the field.

Why Join Us?

You will be working at the bleeding edge of cloud infrastructure, building the physical foundation that powers the internet for millions of users worldwide. This is an opportunity to work on high-visibility projects with top-tier resources and a team dedicated to engineering excellence.
