Job Summary:
Applied Digital is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer to serve as the subject matter expert for electrical systems supporting our Blockchain Hosting business segment. This role will ensure the performance, safety, and reliability of mission-critical infrastructure, including high-voltage equipment, power distribution systems, and substation components. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills, capable of troubleshooting complex issues, developing operational strategies, and guiding teams toward best practices.
This position will work cross-functionally with design, construction, and operations teams, as well as external contractors and vendors, to enhance resiliency, scalability, and efficiency of Applied Digital’s electrical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the subject matter expert for all electrical systems within the data center, including PDUs, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, and generators.
- Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and resolving electrical failures, optimizing system performance, and mitigating risks.
- Develop and implement operational procedures, maintenance strategies, and reliability programs for electrical infrastructure.
- Partner with design and construction teams to influence electrical system design for resiliency, scalability, and long-term operations.
- Analyze electrical system performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors to evaluate new technologies and ensure alignment with industry standards and company requirements.
- Lead root cause analysis for power-related incidents and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Provide training and mentorship to operations and maintenance staff on electrical system operations, safety, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Support the commissioning of new electrical infrastructure and manage transition into operations.
- Prepare documentation, reports, and technical recommendations for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience with high-voltage equipment and large-scale power systems (transformers 5MVA – 500MVA).
- Strong understanding of transformer testing techniques and standards (e.g., DGA, SFRA, tan delta, partial discharge).
- Experience with substation design, relay protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
- Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ANSI, NETA, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Proven ability to manage electrical projects from design through commissioning.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Experience in mission-critical environments such as data centers, utilities, or industrial power infrastructure.
- Familiarity with blockchain hosting or high-density computing facilities.
- Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring junior engineers or operations staff.

Physical Requirements:
Able to remain in a seated position for an extended period and to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. (office manuals, case notebooks, case files, case materials, standard boxes, report binders, etc.) as needed.
Working Conditions by Location:
Remote: The Company agrees that Employee may work from home provided employee is in good standing, has a continuous secured internet connection, necessary equipment, and is accessible by MS Teams, phone, fax, and email during business hours. (See Telework policy.)
Office Environment: Business office hours, with work hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions. Some overtime may be required to accomplish timely work demands and meet the company’s professional commitments. Overtime hours worked are paid to nonexempt employees at one and a half times their hourly pay rate.
Site Location: We are a 24-hour facility. Work hours (shifts) are assigned as necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions, ensure compliance, and support efficient company operations. Some positions require work at irregular hours (nights/weekends), overtime, alternating shifts, and working in challenging conditions (heat/cold, hazardous environments, loud worksites). Overtime hours worked are paid to nonexempt employees at one and a half times their hourly pay rate.
