Data Center Field Installations Technician (L1)

The Data Center Field Installations Technician (L1) is an entry-level technical role responsible for executing standardized in-rack installation activities within a data center environment. This includes rack builds, equipment racking and stacking, structured cabling, power connections, and cooling setup tasks (DX and direct-to-chip liquid cooling).

This role provides hands-on support for deployment activities by following established procedures, checklists, and technical standards to ensure consistent, high-quality installations.

Through accurate execution of installation tasks and adherence to defined processes, this role contributes to timely project delivery and minimizes rework or operational risk.

The primary objective of this role is to complete all assigned installation activities in alignment with quality standards, safety requirements, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The Data Center Field Installations Technician (L1) is responsible for handling standard, low-complexity installation tasks, performing routine physical work, and using documented guidelines and supervision where required.

Onsite - shift work - Amarillo, TX

Key Responsibilities

•\tPerform rack assembly and preparation (rail kits, PDUs, cable management, labeling)

•\tRack and stack servers, network, and storage equipment according to design specifications

•\tExecute structured cabling (copper and fiber) including routing, dressing, and labeling

•\tConnect power cabling (A/B feeds) following defined redundancy standards

•\tAssist with in-rack airflow and cooling setup:

o\tInstall blanking panels and airflow management components for DX-cooled environments

o\tSupport airflow optimization through proper cable routing and rack layout

o\tAssist with direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling connections under supervision (e.g., hose routing, quick disconnects)

•\tFollow installation documentation, diagrams, and method of procedures (MOPs)

•\tConduct basic quality checks and report discrepancies or issues

•\tMaintain cleanliness and organization within racks and work areas

Health & Safety Responsibilities

•\tComply with all data center safety policies, procedures, and permit-to-work systems

•\tUse appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for tasks (e.g., gloves, safety shoes, eye protection)

•\tFollow safe manual handling practices when lifting and installing equipment

•\tAdhere to electrical safety standards when working with power connections (under supervision)

•\tFollow safety procedures for direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems, including leak awareness and immediate reporting

•\tMaintain good housekeeping to prevent trip hazards (e.g., cable management, packaging disposal)

•\tImmediately report hazards, near misses, or incidents

Requirements (L1)

•\tBasic understanding of data center environments and IT hardware components

•\tFamiliarity with structured cabling practices (copper and/or fiber preferred)

•\tAwareness of rack infrastructure (PDUs, rails, cable management)

•\tBasic understanding of airflow management; exposure to DX or direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling is a plus

•\tAbility to follow technical documentation and standard operating procedures

•\tStrong attention to detail and willingness to learn

•\tAbility to perform physical tasks (lifting, working in confined rack spaces, standing for extended periods)

•\tBasic understanding of health and safety practices in a technical environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
