Location: Sterling, Virginia

Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday (with potential shift adjustments)

We are seeking a Data Center Operations Technician I to support growing data center operations in the Sterling, VA area. This role is ideal for candidates with strong hardware troubleshooting skills, a passion for hands‑on technical work, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

About the Role

The Data Center Operations Technician I provides technical support across a variety of hardware and network issues. This position focuses heavily on break/fix repair, safety compliance, and supporting operational stability within the data center. You will work under immediate supervision and follow established procedures, making this a strong opportunity for early‑career technicians looking to grow.

Key Responsibilities1. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures
  • Handle power tools, sharp‑edged components, and sensitive equipment safely
  • Adhere to media handling and data protection guidelines

2. Hardware Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Diagnose and repair server hardware and firmware issues
  • Replace components such as:
    • Motherboards
    • CPUs
    • Power supplies (PSUs)
    • NICs
    • Memory modules
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber optic cables
  • Perform systematic isolation testing to identify points of failure

3. Network Knowledge

  • Understand networking fundamentals and data center network architecture
  • Support Top‑of‑Rack (TOR) switch troubleshooting
  • Respond to network‑related incidents, including rack downs
  • Experience with Linux or networking concepts is a strong plus

Secondary Skills – Nice to Have

  • Data center operations experience
  • Rack and stack
  • Cat5/Cat6 cabling
  • Hardware diagnostics
  • Data center maintenance

General Technical Support Duties

  • Respond to support requests via phone, email, and in‑person
  • Identify, research, and resolve technical issues
  • Document and track all work to ensure timely resolution
  • Follow pre‑established guidelines and procedures
  • Work under immediate supervision and escalate when needed

Basic Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of experience in IT support, data center operations, or related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and networking
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined or elevated spaces
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a back-ground check
  • Some travel may be required

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Advanced hardware troubleshooting experience

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
