Technical Source is seeking a Data Center Project Manager to support mission-critical data center and fiber infrastructure projects for one of our telecommunications clients. In this role, you will lead the full lifecycle of fixed-bid infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery is on time, within scope, and under budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
This position is ideal for a senior-level Project Manager with strong experience in data center or critical facility environments who can manage complex infrastructure deployments, coordinate cross-functional teams, and drive successful project execution from initiation through closeout. This is an onsite role for the duration of the project, with potential for a hybrid schedule after the initial phase.
Job Functions
Project Initiation & Planning
- Develop project charters defining scope, objectives, deliverables, success criteria, and key milestones
- Build detailed project plans including WBS, schedules (Gantt/CPM), resource plans, and cost-loaded baselines
- Gain stakeholder alignment and approval on project scope, timelines, and risks
- Utilize tools such as MS Project or Primavera for scheduling and planning
Project Execution & Technical Leadership
- Oversee installation of structured cabling and fiber infrastructure within data center environments
- Manage field teams, including installers, splicers, and technicians, to ensure quality and productivity
- Validate technical deliverables using OTDRs, power meters, and certification tools
- Perform root cause analysis on testing or performance issues and implement corrective actions
- Ensure accurate as-built documentation, test results, and system traceability
Project Control & Reporting
- Manage procurement plans, material logistics, vendor coordination, and equipment tracking
- Deliver daily/weekly reporting, including project status, performance metrics, and financial tracking
- Monitor project health using dashboards and Earned Value Management (EVM) trends
- Maintain project documentation, including schedules, budgets, and progress reports
Monitoring, Risk Management & Closeout
- Maintain and manage the project risk register with regular risk assessments and mitigation planning
- Execute formal change control processes for scope, schedule, and cost adjustments
- Conduct site audits, quality inspections, and progress reviews to ensure compliance with standards
- Lead project closeout activities, including stakeholder sign-off, financial reconciliation, and lessons learned
Stakeholder Engagement & Safety
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, internal teams, and field operations
- Manage stakeholder expectations through regular updates, reporting, and escalation management
- Coordinate with engineering, quality, safety, and construction teams to ensure alignment
- Champion Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives and promote a zero-incident culture
- Ensure compliance with BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in project management within data center, telecommunications, or critical facility environments
- Proven experience managing full lifecycle infrastructure or construction projects
- Associate degree in a technical field ; equivalent experience strongly considered
- PMP or CAPM certification strongly
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling, fiber optic systems (ISP/OSP), and low-voltage infrastructure
- Familiarity with industry standards, including TIA/EIA, BICSI, and NEC
- Experience with project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera, or similar
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and financial data
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
Leadership Competencies
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor field personnel
- Experience applying structured PM methodologies and leadership frameworks
- Strong adaptability in fast-paced, high-uptime environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and schedule commitments
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to work onsite at active construction and data center environments
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in varying site conditions, including noise and dust exposure
- Ability to travel as required by project needs
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
