As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Center Technician to join our team and drive our relationships with hyperscale clients to new heights.
Schedule: Sun - Tues with alternating Wed. Night 12-hr Shift 9pm-9am.
Location: Hillsboro, OR
Pay: $25/hr
Data Center Technician:
The Data Center Technician is responsible for providing physical support for IT infrastructure in a data center environment. This includes hardware installation, troubleshooting, cabling, and maintenance tasks on behalf of remote engineering teams. The technician acts as the on-site presence for customers and internal teams, ensuring uptime, security, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Rack, stack, and cable servers, switches, routers, and storage devices.
- Replace failed hardware components (e.g., hard drives, memory, power supplies).
- Perform structured cabling (fiber and copper), labeling, and patch panel management.
- Conduct visual inspections and report anomalies (e.g., LED status, cable damage).
- Respond to tickets and service requests from remote teams via platforms like ServiceNow or Jira.
- Perform power cycling, reseating components, and console access for diagnostics.
- Assist with BIOS/firmware updates under remote guidance.
- Swap out removable media (e.g., tapes, USB drives) as requested.
- Supervise and regulate environmental parameters within the data center, including temperature, humidity, airflow, and air quality, to ensure ideal operational environments for IT equipment
- Escalate alerts related to power, cooling, or hardware failures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of server rooms and cable trays.
- Monitor Ticket queues and ensure all customer tickets and responded to within required SLA times
- Escort vendors and ensure compliance with access control policies.
- Log all physical access and maintain audit trails.
- Follow change management and incident response procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical training .
- Experience in a data center or IT support role.
- Familiarity with server hardware (Dell, HPE, Cisco UCS), networking gear, and storage arrays.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic networking concepts.
Qualifications:
- Experience with DCIM tools (e.g., Schneider EcoStruxure, Sunbird).
- Certifications: CompTIA Server+, Network+, or vendor-specific (Cisco, Dell EMC).
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and ticketing systems.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
- Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate between -coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required
