Data Center Technician II (S3) – Intermediate (US)

Location: 2485 Augustine Drive, Santa Clara, CA 95054

Duration: 6+ Months (Potential Extension)

\n

Pay Rate: $30–$35/hour (W2)

\n

About the Role

\n

Our team is seeking a Data Center Technician to support server operations at customer data centers. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in server hardware, IT infrastructure, and cabling management. They should be highly analytical, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and demonstrate a positive, results-driven attitude.

\n

The technician will also be responsible for creating technical and non-technical documentation, contributing to the knowledge base (KB articles, SOPs, lessons learned), and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to drive initiatives through completion.

Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Prepare, stage, install, and perform startup/shutdown activities for data center hardware (racks, servers, hard drives, switches, etc.) following checklists, deployment guides, standard procedures, and documented instructions.
  • \n

  • Assist and provide guidance to other technicians on complex installation and deployment tasks.
  • \n

  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting using standard procedures to quickly identify root causes and replace faulty components with minimal customer impact.
  • \n

  • Conduct post-installation quality checks to verify grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are completed according to safety standards and Network Design Tasks (NDTs).
  • \n

  • Perform hardware decommissioning, memory upgrades, OS rebuilds, and other refresh activities following established procedures.
  • \n

  • Follow incident management procedures by communicating, reporting, and escalating issues to AMD Management as required.
  • \n

  • Participate in daily safety briefings, complete mandatory safety training, and comply with all safety procedures related to equipment handling, electrical hazards, lifting, and ladder use.
  • \n

  • Foster a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge, participating in team meetings, and maintaining awareness of team priorities.
  • \n

  • Proactively communicate changes that may impact workflows or other team members.
  • \n

  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently while meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • \n

  • Demonstrate accountability for service quality, task completion, and overall data center operations.
  • \n

  • Maintain a strong customer focus by understanding the business impact of assigned tasks and delivering high-quality support.
  • \n

Required Skills & Experience

\n

    \n
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware with a deep understanding of component and system failures.
  • \n

  • Experience assisting with hardware failure analysis and root cause investigations.
  • \n

  • Ability to monitor server fleet health, identify failure trends, and support Problem Management activities while ensuring SLA compliance.
  • \n

  • Experience using IPMI for server diagnostics.
  • \n

  • Ability to administer diagnostic tools, hardware tests, and firmware updates.
  • \n

  • Experience providing real-time issue resolution during hardware deployments.
  • \n

  • Experience administering Windows Server and WinPE environments.
  • \n

  • Experience with Linux PXE services is a plus.
  • \n

  • Basic scripting experience using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting .
  • \n

  • Understanding of Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 network troubleshooting.
  • \n

  • Experience configuring virtual machines and virtual environments.
  • \n

  • Ability to work independently as well as within local and geographically distributed teams.
  • \n

Minimum Qualifications

\n

    \n
  • 2+ years of experience as a Data Center Technician.
  • \n

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience .
  • \n

  • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent experience.
  • \n

  • CompTIA Server+ certification or equivalent experience.
  • \n

  • CCENT certification or equivalent experience.
  • \n

  • Experience supporting Windows operating systems.
  • \n

  • CCNA certification .
  • \n

  • MCP/MCSE certification .
  • \n

  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash) .
  • \n

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs when necessary.
  • \n

  • Ability to safely climb ladders as required.
  • \n

  • Ability to properly wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • \n

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the data center for extended periods.
  • \n

  • Ability to:

  • Make quick, precise adjustments to equipment.

  • Bend, twist, and reach as needed.
