WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Position Overview
The Data Center Technician Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining technical training programs that ensure data center technicians are fully equipped to support operational requirements. This role focuses on onboarding new technicians, upskilling existing staff, and ensuring a consistent understanding of safety, compliance, operational standards, and best practices across sites. The Trainer will collaborate closely with site leadership, technical subject matter experts, and compliance teams to ensure that training content is accurate, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Training Program Development & Delivery
- Develop and deliver instructor-led and hands-on technical training for new and existing data center technicians.
- Create structured training materials, including SOPs, job aids, checklists, labs, and assessment tools.
- Facilitate onboarding sessions, cross-training programs, and refresher courses aligned with operational readiness needs.
- Train technicians on hardware installation, break/fix procedures, server builds, troubleshooting, ticketing systems, and rack/stack methodologies.
Operational Readiness & Quality Assurance
- Evaluate technician competency and ensure alignment with operational standards, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.
- Perform on-the-floor coaching, quality checks, and skills assessments to validate training effectiveness.
- Provide structured feedback to site leaders on technician performance, skill gaps, and readiness for independent work.
- Support ramp-up efforts for new site activations, expansions, and surge activity.
Documentation & Process Standardization
- Maintain and update technical training content, ensuring accuracy as hardware , tools, and SOPs evolve.
- Create clear, concise documentation to support technician workflows and reduce operational errors.
- Partner with engineering, compliance, and operations teams to incorporate new processes and lessons learned into training materials.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with site leaders, PMs, vendor management, and engineering partners to ensure training aligns with operational priorities.
- Coordinate with Compliance Analysts to ensure technicians understand audit, safety, and SLA requirements.
- Support performance improvement plans by providing targeted retraining where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Track training metrics, certification progress, and skill development trends.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce rework, and improve technician effectiveness.
- Recommend enhancements to onboarding, readiness tracking, and competency frameworks.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in data center operations, hardware support, or technical training.
- Strong technical knowledge of server hardware, diagnostics, cabling, troubleshooting, and data center safety standards.
- Proven experience delivering training or mentoring technicians in a hands-on environment.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex technical content.
- Strong documentation and content-creation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple training schedules and adapt to changing operational priorities.
- Experience supporting large-scale cloud or hyperscale data center environments.
- Familiarity with industry-standard ticketing systems and workflow tools.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks, operational audits, and quality assurance best practices.
- Instructional design or adult learning certification (e.g., CompTIA CTT+).
