Job Title: SC Cleared Data Centre Engineer
Location: Grays & Stevenage
Duration: 6 Months with possible extension
Rate: Up to £500 per day via an approved umbrella company
Must hold active SC Clearance

\n We are seeking experienced Data Centre Engineers to support a major Data Centre Exit Project. This is a hands-on role working within secure live data centre environments, responsible for the decommissioning of infrastructure hardware across multiple locations.
\n Additional engineers are required within the Datacentre Team to meet increased demand for project work, specifically the Data Centre Exit Project. The current team does not have the bandwidth to absorb the additional workload, making experienced contractors the most viable and timely solution.

Key Responsibilities:\n

\n
• Decommission server, storage and infrastructure hardware within live data centre environments.

\n

• Remove rack-mounted equipment safely and in accordance with documented procedures.

\n

• Trace, identify and disconnect Ethernet, Fibre Channel/SAN and power connectivity.

\n

• Handle HDDs, SSDs and other data-bearing media securely.

\n

• Support secure data sanitisation, media destruction and chain-of-custody requirements.

\n

• Maintain accurate hardware asset and inventory records.

\n

• Work from rack elevations, implementation plans, asset lists and technical documentation.

\n

• Follow formal change-control and change-management processes.

\n

• Escalate unexpected dependencies, discrepancies or risks as appropriate.

\n

Required Skills & Experience:\n

\n
• Proven hands-on experience working within live data centre environments.

\n

• Previous experience undertaking server, storage or infrastructure decommissioning.

\n

• Strong practical knowledge of enterprise server and storage hardware.

\n

• Experience installing/removing rack-mounted equipment and working safely within data centre racks.

\n

• Experience tracing and disconnecting Ethernet, Fibre Channel/SAN and power connectivity.

\n

• Understanding of enterprise storage infrastructure and associated cabling.

\n

• Experience handling HDDs, SSDs and other data-bearing media securely.

\n

• Knowledge of secure data sanitisation, media destruction and chain-of-custody requirements.

\n

• Experience maintaining accurate hardware asset and inventory records.

\n

• Experience working with CMDB and/or IT asset-management systems.

\n

• Ability to work from rack elevations, asset lists, implementation plans and technical documentation.

\n

• Experience working within formal change-control and change-management processes.

\n

• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to equipment identification.

\n

• Ability to recognise unexpected dependencies or discrepancies and escalate appropriately rather than proceeding without authorisation.

\n

• Good written documentation and communication skills.

\n

• Ability to work independently whilst following defined technical and security procedures.

\n

• Ability and willingness to travel between all three data centre locations.
