Job Description

Purpose of the Role\n\nThe Data Centre HVAP Technician is responsible for supervising and executing both planned and reactive maintenance activities within a mission-critical environment.\n\nWorking closely with the Engineering Supervisor, Shift Leader, and client representatives, the role ensures full compliance with site policies, procedures, and Health & Safety regulations.\n\nAs a High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP), you will ensure all safety documentation is completed to the highest standard and that all works are carried out in strict accordance with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and company policies.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDeliver routine and reactive maintenance across building plant, equipment, and infrastructure, consistently meeting or exceeding SLAs\n\nRespond promptly to BMS alarms and undertake emergency repairs as required\n\nImplement, manage, and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) systems to ensure safe operations\n\nDevelop, review, and follow switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs in line with Safe Systems of Work\n\nMaintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with ACoP L8 (Legionella) requirements\n\nEnsure effective management and availability of spare parts to support maintenance and fault response\n\nMaintain accurate maintenance records using REALM task sheets\n\nPrepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) for in-house works\n\nSupervise engineering subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and site procedures\n\nEnsure all work packs contain required documentation and review subcontractor RAMS prior to approval\n\nProvide technical and operational support during unplanned incidents or system faults\n\nFulfil all duties associated with High Voltage Authorised Person status\n\nClient & Site Responsibilities\n\nBuild and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and client representatives\n\nPromote a safe and healthy working environment in line with company and client policies\n\nPresent a professional image at all times, delivering high standards of customer service\n\nCommit to ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance technical competence\n\nDemonstrate a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for site performance and safety\n\nExperience & Skills Required\nQualifications & Certifications\n\nHigh Voltage Authorisation (essential)\n\nCurrent Wiring Regulations certification\n\nNVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline\n\nEmergency First Aid at Work\n\nManual Handling (advantageous)\n\nPASMA and IPAF ()\n\nExperience\n\nProven experience managing real-time incidents and faults within business-critical or data centre environments\n\nExperience in a similar HVAP or critical engineering role\n\nStrong understanding of Health & Safety obligations in live operational environments\n\nKnowledge of multiple interlinked systems, including Fire, PMS, and BMS platforms\n\nSkills & Attributes\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills; numerate and literate\n\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices\n\nSelf-motivated, professional, and accountable\n\nAble to work both independently and collaboratively within a team\n\nHighly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure\n\nProfessional, courteous, and confident in client-facing environments\n\nFlexible with working hours to meet operational requirements
