Job DescriptionJob Description
Our client is a leading financial services firm operating mission-critical, always-on infrastructure supporting continuous high-performance computing workloads across global markets. With a significant and growing footprint in Americas, they are expanding their New York based Datacentre Operations team.
This is a technically demanding environment where precision, reliability and low-latency are non-negotiable. The firm is well-capitalised, non-hierarchical, and invests heavily in its people and infrastructure.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Datacentre Operations Engineer to own the physical layer of our client's Americas datacentre estate. You will lead colocation deployments, manage third-party vendors, and maintain infrastructure to the exacting standards required by a firm where performance and uptime directly impact business outcomes.
This is a hands-on role not a management position. You will be in the datacentre, pulling cable, racking servers and turning up networks, as well as driving projects end-to-end and producing the documentation that keeps operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute physical infrastructure deployments across Americas data centres; support global operations as needed.
- Drive large-scale projects: colocation setups, expansions, and equipment migrations between sites.
- Design, install and maintain structured cabling; monitor and plan power, space and cooling capacity.
- Perform server integration work including PCIe/NIC installs, hardware refreshes and failed component replacements.
- Support network deployments; coordinate with exchanges, brokers, connectivity providers and remote-hands vendors.
- Produce and maintain runbooks, install guides, test plans and post-change verification records; review and approve changes.
- Assist with inventory and logistics as required to support deployments.
Requirements
- 5+ years in datacentre or infrastructure operations.
- Hands-on experience with switches and routers; Cisco, Mellanox or Arista .
- Proven track record building and operating low-latency trading infrastructure in Americas colocation environments.
- Solid routing knowledge: BGP, OSPF and multicast implementation and troubleshooting.
- Comfortable working inside servers: PCIe cards, NICs, firmware updates, hardware diagnostics (Dell experience a plus).
- Experience with fibre optics and transceivers: SFP/SFP+/QSFP/DWDM and optical networking fundamentals.
- Strong change management and documentation discipline.
- Effective communicator for vendor coordination, exchange/broker integration and remote-hands instruction.
- Flexibility to work Saturdays (time off in lieu provided) or a shifted week, e.g. Tuesday–Saturday.
