Design Manager - Data Center

Job Description

ROSS Consultancy USA is hiring a Design Manager for a flagship hyperscale data centre project in Goodyear, Arizona, working with one of the top-tier general contractors in the mission-critical market.

\n

\n

This is the kind of project that changes what a résumé looks like. Multi-building hyperscale campus, next- power and cooling topologies, and a client base that includes the biggest names in the sector. If you're a design manager who wants to be able to point at something significant and say you ran the design coordination on it, this is that job.

\n

\n

The Role

\n

You'll be the central link between the design team, the trade partners and the field. Everything design-related on the project runs through you, from early concept coordination through to a clean handover to commissioning and operations. The role is heavily MEP-focused, and candidates with an electrical bias will be of particular interest given the power distribution scope on this campus.

\n

\n

Design Manager - What You'll Be Doing

\n

    \n
  • Coordinating all design communication, milestones and deliverables across preconstruction, engineering, construction, procurement and commissioning
  • \n

  • Managing design consultants and design-assist trade partners, holding them to schedule, budget and quality
  • \n

  • Driving RFI resolution, design clarifications, change control, drawing revisions and design risk escalation
  • \n

  • Leading constructability and value engineering reviews, making sure design decisions can actually be built on schedule and at cost
  • \n

  • Supporting execution strategies including prefabricated MEP, skids, busway, medium voltage distribution and liquid cooling enablement
  • \n

  • Validating design integration for high-density and AI/ML compute environments
  • \n

  • Running BIM and clash coordination with the VDC team, and providing BIM support to the wider project team
  • \n

  • Ensuring compliance with local codes, permitting requirements, utility conditions, energy standards and sustainability targets
  • \n

  • Owning the design risk register, design logs, milestone reporting and lessons learned so the next project starts smarter than this one did
  • \n

\n

\n

Design Manager - What You'll Need

\n

    \n
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or similar
  • \n

  • 3+ years in design management or project management on large-scale construction projects
  • \n

  • Strong MEP background, with electrical experience a distinct advantage
  • \n

  • Proven track record managing engineers, consultants and specialist trade contractors
  • \n

  • Solid grasp of design coordination, construction sequencing and delivery models
  • \n

  • Working knowledge of codes, permitting and regulatory compliance
  • \n

  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Revit and ACC / BIM 360 is essential, including generating concept design site layouts
  • \n

  • Experience with Procore, MS Project or similar
  • \n

  • Comfortable running several complex workstreams at once against tight dates
  • \n

\n

\n

Nice to Have

\n

    \n
  • Previous data centre or mission-critical experience
  • \n

  • PMP or equivalent
  • \n

  • Experience across design-build and design-bid-build delivery
  • \n

\n

\n

What's on Offer

\n

A leading package, a long-term project with a contractor who keeps people busy after handover, and genuine visibility with a hyperscale end user.
