Director, Origination (Data Center Tech Space)

Summary:

The position will primarily be responsible for originating commercial transactions in the data center tech space for long term power solutions. Key responsibilities will include building and managing relationships with tech space customers, working with development teams to structure offerings, and other structuring and associated market analytics The candidate should be available for travel for customer meetings and internal meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

Key Responsibilities:

• Origination of new commercial transactions with data center tech space customers.
• Establish new relationships with target customers.
• Work with development team to understand projects, target customers, and offtake strategies.
• Offer structuring and associated market analytics including exploring offtake structures and alternatives to maximize value for the projects.
• Managing new offtake agreements post execution with coordination and handoff to asset management.
• Travel for customer meetings and internal meetings.
• Work with regulatory and policy experts to track and incorporate policy and power market changes into strategy.
• Coordinate responses to requests for offers including working with development team to prepare proposals and working with finance team for developing pricing offers.
• Work closely with internal and external resources to structure, negotiate and close transactions.
• Provide input into company business plan and development strategy.
• Follow regulatory processes and market changes to establish new opportunities and incorporate changes into agreement negotiations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.

• Understanding of power markets and deal structures.
• Deep understanding of data center commercial and technical requirements
• Desires to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment to meet project deadlines
• Deal driven with strong negotiations skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE:

• BS and/or BBA/BA/MBA; technical aptitude a plus, advanced degree a plus
• Experience in renewables/origination/markets
• Preference for experience in the tech space with preference for work experience with or at data center provider

Must be able to communicate with customers, Team members, outside stakeholders to drive origination of agreements to successful completion. Communicates directly and with candor, while adjusting for the intended audience. Be aware and pick-up on others’ motivations and perspectives. Preserves and strengthens relationships with each communication.

REASONING ABILITY & DECISION-MAKING SKILLS:

Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, capable of applying experience in market principles to identify and solve complex issues. Makes timely decisions and knows when to involve others in the decision-making process. Takes accountability for making and implementing decisions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work from home with regular travel to customer meetings, internal meetings in San Diego, or hosting customer visits to project sites.

The posted compensation is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
