Powergen Controls is a specialized electrical engineering and manufacturing company focused on custom low-voltage switchboards, power distribution systems, and advanced control solutions for mission-critical facilities including data centers, healthcare, government, marine, and industrial applications.
We design, build, retrofit, and troubleshoot complex electrical systems including UL-listed switchboards, PLC-based control systems, protective relays, and integrated power distribution equipment.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Electrical Controls Engineer with hands-on experience in PLCs, switchboards, and hardwired control systems.
This role requires both engineering design capability and field troubleshooting expertise. The ideal candidate must be comfortable troubleshooting energized and legacy electrical control systems in compliance with NFPA 70E and OSHA safety standards, performing retrofits, and implementing PLC/HMI modifications when required.
This position involves regular travel with a mix of design, redlining drawings, commissioning, and real-world field diagnostics in critical facilities
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop electrical control systems for switchboards and power distribution equipment
Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLCs.
Configure and troubleshoot HMIs
Interpret, create, and redline electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Troubleshoot energized and legacy control systems in compliance with electrical safety standards.
Retrofit and upgrade legacy switchboards and hardwired control systems
Diagnose PLC logic issues, communication faults, and integration problems
Support modernization projects including breaker control upgrades and system expansions
Perform system testing, commissioning, and startup support
Coordinate with manufacturing, engineering, and field service teams
Travel to job sites as required
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical controls engineering
Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting
Experience configuring and modifying HMIs
Strong knowledge of hardwired control systems
Ability to read, interpret, create, and redline electrical schematics
Experience working with low-voltage power distribution equipment
Experience troubleshooting legacy systems and performing system retrofits
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Experience
Experience with UL 891 or UL 1558 switchboards
Experience in data centers, hospitals, marine, or other critical power environments
Familiarity with protective relays (GE, SEL, Schneider, etc.)
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
Commissioning and startup experience
