Electrical Engineer – Power Distribution & Controls

Location: Fort Collins, CO
On‐Site Requirement: Fully On‐Site (No Remote or Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full‐Time W2 Contract
Compensation: $130,000 – $170,000 annually

Position Summary

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with strong hands-on experience in low- and medium-voltage power distribution within a switchgear OEM or equipment manufacturing environment. This role requires deep expertise in UL 67 Switchboards & Panelboards, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), and industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, relays, and power monitoring systems.

The ideal candidate has supported data center power systems, is well‐versed in UL 508A control panel design, and is comfortable collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and field teams.

Key Responsibilities (Power Distribution & Controls)

  • Design, engineer, and support manufacturing of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, including:
    • UL 67 Switchboards and Panelboards
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • LV/MV Switchgear (UL 891, UL 1558)
    • Dry-type and liquid-filled transformers
  • Develop and review single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and physical layouts
  • Perform electrical studies including:
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Arc flash analysis (IEEE 1584)
    • Protective device coordination
    • Load flow and voltage drop analysis
  • Select breakers, bus systems, and protective devices ensuring SCCR compliance, bus bracing, and proper equipment rating coordination
  • Design, review, and support UL 508A industrial control panels, including:
    • PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, relays, and power monitoring systems
    • Control power distribution and panel layouts
    • SCCR calculations and UL documentation
  • Integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, relays, and monitoring systems into switchboards and MCCs
    (This experience is essential for this role)
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting
  • Work closely with manufacturing, field service, EPC partners, utilities, and customer engineering teams

Required Qualifications

  • BSEE or related engineering degree
  • 5+ years of power distribution engineering experience
  • Required hands-on experience with:
    • UL 67 Switchboards & Panelboards
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Transformers and data center power systems
  • Strong understanding of:
    • NEC, NFPA 70E
    • IEEE 1584, IEEE 242
    • UL 891, UL 1558, UL 67, UL 508A
  • Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar tools

Qualifications

  • Experience working for a switchgear or MCC OEM
  • UL 508A MTR certification
  • PE or EIT
  • Experience supporting Tier III / Tier IV data centers
  • Knowledge of UL 98, UL 1066, and protective relay integration
