Job DescriptionJob Description
Team Red Dog is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to support a mission-critical Alarm Management Program for a Fortune 100 technology leader, focused on improving alarm quality, reducing alarm fatigue, and driving engineering-based solutions across global data center environments. This fully remote role (East Coast time zone work hours) is ideal for engineers with deep experience in alarm management, electrical systems, and mission-critical infrastructure who want to make measurable, global impact.
Top Required Skills (Must Haves):
- Alarm Management & Analysis – Hands-on experience with alarm rationalization, alarm flood analysis, standing alarm reduction, and applying alarm management principles to improve alarm quality and actionability.
- Electrical Engineering Systems Expertise – Strong background in electrical power and control systems, including EPMS, instrumentation, and control logic within mission-critical or industrial environments.
- Data Center or Industrial Operations Experience – Experience working in data centers or regulated industrial environments such as power , oil & gas, nuclear, chemical, or manufacturing facilities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Ability to partner effectively with operations, engineering, and instrumentation/control teams to implement sustainable, engineering-driven alarm improvements.
Opportunity Overview:
This role supports a newly established global Alarm Management Program that is already delivering meaningful reductions in nuisance alarms across data centers worldwide. As the program matures, this engineer will play a key role in shaping standards, scaling successful solutions globally, and ensuring alarms remain reliable, actionable, and aligned with industry best practices. The position offers the opportunity to influence alarm strategy at scale while collaborating with global engineering and operations teams.
How you will make an impact:
- Analyze alarm data to identify recurring issues, alarm floods, and improvement opportunities across global sites.
- Design, evaluate, and improve electrical power and control systems with a strong focus on alarm behavior and performance.
- Support alarm rationalization activities, including setpoint reviews, delay and deadband tuning, shelving, suppression, and state-based alarming.
- Partner with site operations, engineering, and controls teams to implement engineering-driven alarm improvements.
- Assess alarm behavior during normal, abnormal, and transitional system states through simulation and testing.
- Contribute to global change management efforts by evaluating local improvements for scalability and global deployment.
- Provide technical input for incident remediation by identifying alarm design contributors and recommending preventive changes.
- Evaluate vendor and competitor products for alarm behavior, system integration, and operational usability.
The expertise you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- 5–7 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
- 2–3 years of direct alarm management experience within formal alarm management programs.
- Experience applying alarm management standards such as ISA-18.2.
- Background working in data centers or industrial, mission-critical environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and instrumentation diagrams.
What makes a candidate highly successful in this role:
Successful candidates have hands-on experience participating in alarm rationalization sessions, leading alarm flood analysis efforts, and driving sustained alarm reduction initiatives. They are comfortable tuning alarm setpoints, delays, and deadbands, and implementing suppression or state-based alarming strategies. They combine strong technical judgment with the ability to collaborate across disciplines, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and advocate for engineering-based solutions over temporary fixes.
