HOW YOUR ROLE FITS INTO BOLDT:
As an Energy Marshall for The Boldt Company you will develop, implement, and oversee the site wide Energy Isolation Program for complex data center campuses. This is a highly specialized safety and quality assurance role responsible for controlling and managing hazardous energy throughout the construction, commissioning, and retrofitting of mission critical data centers. As the central authority for electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic safety in high-risk environments, you will ensure all work follows strict Lockout/Tagout procedures, governing standards (NFPA 70E, OSHA), and client-specific safety protocols. This role has the authority to stop work and is essential to energizing critical infrastructure without injury, incident, or equipment damage in data centers. WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
Energy Isolation, Lockout/Tagout, and Safety Leadership
- Implement and audit safe work practices associated with energization and isolation activities.
- Review and approve LOTO procedures, ensuring 100% effective energy isolation across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and stored energy‑ systems.
- Serve as the SME for all energization and isolation activities related to the project.
- Establish consistency around project team energizations and isolations, providing safety focused reporting to the customer‑focused reporting to the customer.
- Maintain compliance with NFPA 70E, OSHA, customer standards, and project specific safety programs.
Training, Qualification & Compliance Oversight
- Deliver project specific Electrical Safety Orientations.
- Confirm that all individuals working on energized or de‑energized equipment meet Qualified Worker criteria based on NFPA 70E, OSHA, or equivalent standards.
- Audit site practices against written safety standards and document any deficiencies.
- Engage with stored energy systems (gas, water, steam, compressed air) to ensure proper isolation and control.
Permitting, Documentation & Technical Review
- Develop a universal Energy Isolation permit process and electrical room attendance tracker.
- Review and approve LOTO plans, permitting processes, SOWs, MOPs, AHA/JHAs, and scripts for high-risk activities.
- Review the Electrical Energization Safety Program with electrical contractors and the commissioning authority.
- Confirm the accuracy and full implementation of electrician/vendor LOTO plans.
- Verify receipt of approved coordination studies and ensure all arc flash labels are applied.
Additional Duties:
- The Energy Marshall will manage the commissioning process during construction from pre-energization through project completion and turnover.
- Ensures compliance with safe work practices during energization and isolation activities.
- Responsible for verifying the commission plan and reviewing quality reports.
- Completes any pre-energization inspections.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for energy isolation practices is responsible for the LOTO program on site and providing guidance to teams on all energy related safety practices.
- Verify qualifications and competence of staff designated to manage energy high-risk activities (e.g., Live-Dead-Live (LDL), Infrared Scanning).
- Develop and conduct electrical safety training for equipment technicians on the project and perform regular assessments of application and implementation on the project.
- Lead and/or participate in root cause analysis for incidents, engage with trade partners and Boldt leadership on decision making for dispute resolution.
- Reviews and audits energy isolation procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Attends daily and weekly High-Risk Activity (HRA) / Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Meetings and provides procedure preparation support associated with Energy Isolation
- Partners with project teams to identify and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Interprets line drawings and system redundancies to ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems are designed and implemented effectively and in compliance with standards.
- Provides expert guidance on energy isolation in environments with multiple energy sources, with a particular focus on electrical systems.
- Serves as an independent authority for stopping all unsafe work practices regarding Energy Isolation.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to serve others along with a high concern for people all the while maintaining a steady focus on project outcomes.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU:
- Master’s degree in Safety Management or MEP engineering and 10+ years of related experience with critical systems OR equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
- 10+ years of data construction MEP, Safety, Quality and/or Commissiong experience required.
- Demonstrated understanding of and execution of the safe installation and operation of electrical systems across various voltages, AC/DC systems, and equipment types on large data center projects.
- Knowledge of pressurized mechanical systems, compressed gas, and compressed air lines.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience in construction environments and electrical commissioning standards and practices.

- A valid driver’s license may be required. Individuals in this role may be subject to an annual Motor Vehicle Records check. The anticipated salary range for this position is $159,700 - $217,233 per year. This range represents what The Boldt Company reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered will be dependent upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to: candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, alignment with market data and internal equity as well as other business and organizational needs. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work out of our Waukesha, WI office. If the incumbent works out of a different location, the anticipated salary range is subject to change. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position objects and operate tools or controls. Employee frequently uses a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to position self to maneuver in confined or awkward spaces. The employee regularly is required to remain in a stationary position and move to access people or machinery or workspaces. Employee is occasionally required to ascend and/or descend a ladder or stairs to reach work areas. The employee must regularly move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly required to travel (as vehicle driver and as passenger on various modes of transportation) and frequently performs work on-site at construction work sites. Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor frequently. The employee is required to be able to effectively communicate while on the job site and throughout the completion of duties.
The working conditions of this position requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to maintain safety and prevent exposure to harmful materials. The environment for which this position functions may be exposed to prolonged loud noises and may contain scents and fragrances. May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
