Direct Counsel is seeking a Mid-Level Energy Regulatory Associate to join a nationally recognized law firm with a robust energy practice.
The Washington, D.C. office is hiring a 3rd to 5th year associate to join its Energy Regulatory and Transactions group. This associate will support a high-volume team advising clients at the forefront of energy innovation, including renewable energy and electric storage developers, independent power producers, transmission companies, power marketers, and electric and gas utilities (including non-jurisdictional entities).
Key responsibilities include:

Regulatory work before FERC and state public utility commissions (matters involving the FPA, NGA, PURPA, PUHCA)

Participating in administrative litigation and federal court proceedings

Conducting investigations and enforcement defense

Supporting transactional matters including contract negotiations for power and gas sales, interconnection agreements, and energy-related financings (e.g., data center power supply deals)
This position offers an excellent opportunity to deepen regulatory experience while expanding into energy deal work. Prior experience with FERC proceedings, particularly hearings and settlements, as well as familiarity with electric, renewable, and gas regulation is highly .
Requirements:

J.D. from an accredited law school

3–5 years of relevant experience in energy regulatory and transactional matters

Admission to the D.C. Bar is required

Strong academic credentials and excellent writing and analytical skills
Compensation:
The expected salary range for this role is $260,000 to $365,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on experience and qualifications.
