Position Summary

Virginia Transformer is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance activities at our Pocatello, Idaho manufacturing facility.

This leader will be responsible for developing and driving a proactive safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, Idaho DEQ, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The EHS Manager will partner closely with plant leadership to reduce risk, eliminate incidents, improve environmental performance, and support operational excellence across the facility.

This position reports directly to Plant Leadership with a strong dotted-line partnership to Corporate EHS.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all Environmental, Health & Safety programs for the Pocatello manufacturing facility.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve site safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Foster a culture where safety is a core value through employee engagement, coaching, and leadership visibility.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Idaho DEQ, NFPA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct facility risk assessments, hazard analyses, and job safety analyses.
  • Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage workers' compensation, return-to-work programs, and injury case management.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training for all employees, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Manage emergency response planning, evacuation procedures, and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, including waste management, stormwater, air emissions, hazardous materials, and chemical management.
  • Lead internal safety audits and coordinate regulatory inspections.
  • Track and report EHS metrics including TRIR, DART, near misses, corrective actions, and environmental performance.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, and Production to proactively identify and mitigate workplace risks.
  • Manage contractor safety programs and ensure compliance for all outside vendors.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and behavioral-based safety principles.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience leading safety programs in heavy manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, metals, electrical equipment, or similar environments.
  • Experience conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of EPA environmental regulations and environmental permitting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to influence leaders and employees at every level of the organization.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience supporting union and non-union manufacturing environments.
  • Experience within electrical equipment, transformer manufacturing, utilities, heavy industrial manufacturing, or energy industries.
