Environmental Safety Technician (Traveling) – Underground Utilities / Civil Construction

Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Salary: $80,000–$90,000 annually
Per Diem: Paid 7 days per week while assigned to the project

Position Overview

A leading civil subcontractor is seeking an experienced Environmental Safety Technician to support underground utility installation on a major data center construction project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This traveling position is responsible for promoting a safe work environment while ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations across all phases of underground utility construction.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting safety programs on large-scale civil construction projects involving excavation, trenching, utility installation, site development, and heavy equipment operations. Experience on data center projects or other mission-critical construction projects is highly .

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily safety inspections of underground utility and civil construction operations.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and client-specific requirements.
  • Assist project management with implementation and enforcement of site safety programs.
  • Perform hazard assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and field safety observations.
  • Support trenching and excavation safety compliance, including protective systems and utility locating requirements.
  • Monitor environmental compliance activities, including erosion control, stormwater management, spill prevention, and waste management.
  • Lead new employee orientations and site-specific safety training.
  • Participate in incident investigations and develop corrective action recommendations.
  • Review permits and work plans for excavation, confined space entry, hot work, and other high-risk activities.
  • Maintain safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and compliance logs.
  • Work closely with field supervisors, operators, subcontractors, and client representatives to maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors before incidents occur.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of construction safety experience.
  • Experience supporting civil construction, underground utilities, earthwork, site development, pipeline, or heavy highway projects.
  • Knowledge of OSHA construction standards, particularly trenching and excavation regulations.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and communicate effectively with craft personnel and supervisors.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in a field-based construction environment.
  • Data center construction experience.
  • Experience on mission-critical, industrial, energy, manufacturing, or large infrastructure projects.
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or similar safety credential.
  • Experience with environmental compliance programs and SWPPP requirements.
