About the Role: An ISP Fiber Splicer / Technician is responsible for the installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems within data centers and commercial building environments. This role supports structured cabling and network infrastructure inside controlled environments such as MDF and IDF rooms, white space, and equipment racks. Technicians must follow strict quality, labeling, and documentation standards to ensure reliable high performance network connectivity.Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform fusion splicing and mechanical splicing of single mode and multi mode fiber optic cables in indoor environments.
- Perform high density ribbon splicing and mass fusion splicing for large count fiber trunks and backbone systems.
- Prep, organize, and manage high fiber count cables including ribbonizing, heat shrinking, and proper fiber management within cassettes and enclosures.
- Terminate and install fiber connectors including LC, SC, ST, and MPO/MTP.
- Install and manage fiber distribution panels, patch panels, cassettes, splice trays, and enclosures.
- Perform rack and stack fiber installations within cabinets and network racks.
- Test fiber optic systems using OTDR, light source and power meter, and fiber certification equipment.
- Interpret OTDR traces to identify attenuation, signal loss, and connectivity issues.
- Label, dress, and manage fiber cabling according to project specifications and data center standards.
- Read and interpret fiber schematics, rack elevations, and structured cabling drawings.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues and perform fiber restoration inside active environments.
- Maintain clean and organized white space and MDF/IDF areas.
- Follow site specific safety and security protocols including badge access requirements.
- Operate fusion splicing equipment such as Fujikura, Sumitomo, Corning, or similar fiber machines capable of ribbon and single fiber splicing.
- Perform physically demanding tasks including working on ladders, lifts, and standing for extended periods.
- Experience in data center or commercial structured cabling environments is required. This role focuses on inside plant installations and is not related to outside plant utility or aerial fiber work.
Required Qualifications:
- Reliable transportation and ability to report to the jobsite on time daily.
- Valid driver’s license if required for the role.
- Full PPE including hard hat, safety vest, steel toe boots, gloves, and safety glasses.
- Basic hand tools and trade specific tools as required.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and OSHA guidelines.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to take direction.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or extended shifts as needed.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Ability to work in secure or badge access environments.
