The Field Engineering Technician / O-Calc Technician supports aerial fiber engineering projects through field data collection, pole verification, and pole loading analysis. This role combines outdoor field work with office-based engineering support, helping ensure accurate pole loading models, make-ready engineering, and fiber network design.

Multiple field positions and levels of roles available. Rate reflective of your experience against required duties.

Field Responsibilities

  • Perform field collection and verification of aerial utility pole data
  • Measure pole height, attachment elevations, and clearances using calibrated measurement tools
  • Capture pole images, GPS coordinates, and field notes using company-provided mobile devices
  • Inspect poles for class, condition, span length, and existing attachments
  • Identify clearance issues, loading conflicts, and discrepancies between GIS data and field conditions
  • Walk pole lines across various terrain and weather conditions
  • Travel locally to project segments as required

Office & Technical Responsibilities

  • Input field-collected data into O-Calc, SPIDAcalc, Katapult, or similar pole loading software
  • Build and calibrate pole loading models based on field measurements
  • Validate pole class, height, span length, and loading assumptions
  • Upload, organize, and maintain accurate engineering records and documentation
  • Support make-ready engineering, fiber design, and permitting workflows
  • Prepare completed pole loading packages for engineering review

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and mobile applications

Qualifications

  • Telecom, utility, or fiber engineering experience
  • Experience with O-Calc, SPIDAcalc, Katapult, IKE GPS, or similar tools
  • Experience with pole loading analysis or field data collection
