Field Service Engineer – Automation, BMS & Controls

Location: Thanet, Kent (UK-wide travel to client sites)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Pearson Whiffin Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a specialist engineering business operating at the forefront of automation, BMS integration and control systems.

This is a varied, technically engaging role supporting projects across data centres, advanced manufacturing and high-spec environments. The successful engineer will be involved in commissioning, diagnostics, system integration and client support across the UK.

This role offers genuine technical depth, variety and long-term development for an engineer who enjoys site-based work and complex automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and support automation, SCADA and BMS control systems
  • Carry out diagnostics, troubleshooting and fault-finding across hardware and software
  • Configure and program PLCs, HMIs and SCADA platforms
  • Commission and support OT Fieldbus communications (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
  • Provide on-site technical support, guidance and system training to clients
  • Work closely with in-house software and design teams to deliver projects successfully
  • Produce commissioning records, service reports and technical documentation
  • Travel to client sites across the UK, with occasional overnight stays

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience within automation or control engineering
  • Hands-on PLC programming experience (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA systems, HMIs and industrial communications
  • Experience with BMS integration and OT environments
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Confident working independently on client sites
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Python or scripting experience within automation environments
  • Experience with UPS systems, HVAC controls or power distribution
  • Background in data centre or high-spec manufacturing commissioning
