The Role

We are seeking an HR and Operations Manager with a broad range of experience to join our Legal & Operations team. Key skills include being highly organized, the ability to multitask, maintaining complete confidentiality in handling sensitive employee and company data, and strong communication skills. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of experience in human resources and employee benefits. While the core of this role focuses on HR-related responsibilities, we are looking for an individual who also has exposure to some of the following additional areas: legal, insurance, operations, information technology, finance, tax, accounting, office management, executive support, or other similar corporate functions. Familiarity with platforms such as Employee Navigator, Workday, TriNet and Ramp is also desired. Some of the responsibilities of the role include:

Human Resources and Employee Benefits

  • Handling all aspects of HR and benefits responsibilities, through working with our contracted professional employer organization
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding workflows for all employees
  • Maintain employee records and answer questions about payroll, benefits and policies
  • Coordinate with benefits providers, including enrollment
  • Support a positive company culture with a high level of employee morale

Insurance

  • Maintain records for all insurance policies and interface with company brokers regarding existing coverage and future renewals
  • Help the company develop a complete insurance program for electric generating facilities beyond the more traditional corporate insurance policies in place today

Corporate Support and Other Back Office Operations

  • Assist the General Counsel in maintaining accurate and complete company records, including board approvals, authorizations, annual report filings in various states, etc.
  • Provide operational support to other company functions involving finance, accounting, legal and tax

Office Management

  • Coordinate office needs across the company’s headquarters in Traverse City, a second office in Maryland and an expected third office in the Western U.S.
  • Ensure sufficient office supplies and equipment are available to support internal and external meetings involving customers, board members and team events
  • Organize team events and offsites, including coordinating attendee schedules

Location and Benefits

This position will be based in Traverse City, Michigan. Takanock provides competitive compensation and benefits, including fully paid medical, dental, and vision plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield, a 401(k) plan with company contributions, profits-interest equity grants, an unlimited PTO policy, a monthly mobile phone stipend and company-paid parking. The salary range for this position is $100,000-$130,000 per year with a target bonus of 20%.
