JOB SUMMARY:

The HR Generalist maintains and enhances the organization’s human resources by administering employee relations and human resources policies for all plant employees.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Communicate and administer hourly and salaried HR policies, programs and procedures in accordance with state and federal law.

·         Be aware of employee concerns and problems, and the “pulse” of the organization.

·         Administer training programs.

·         Administer benefits: BCBS, MetLife (life, dental, and short-term ), 401(K), and COBRA.

·         Actively work toward a safer organization and ensure compliance with all OSHA requirements.  Direct safety program within the plant.

·         Maintain hourly and salaried employee records and files.

·         Ensure counseling and discipline are handled consistently.  Ensure managers know how to administer counseling/discipline and maintain records.

·         Work with plant supervisors on the administration of performance evaluations.

·         Manage recruitment, interviewing, hiring and onboarding of new employees.

·         Oversee the handling of grievances filed by the union through the proper steps.

·         Interpret and administer union contract consistently.

·         Act as a liaison between management and the union.

·         Prepare and process new employee paperwork.

·         Responsible for benefits with new employees.

·         Administer plant absenteeism policy to include calculating monthly percentage.

·         Prepare the following reports:  force, organizational chart, turnover, medical leave/light duty, and any other report requested.

·         Administer Uniform and Safety Shoe Program.

·         Collect and issue monthly activity reports and overtime cards.

·         Order all office supplies and maintain small inventory.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Basic knowledge of state and federal employment and labor laws.

·         Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

·         Must be knowledgeable in Excel, Word and Windows.

·         Ability to interact with all levels of management and plant personnel.

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

·         College degree

·         Three (3) to five (5) years of HR Generalist experience

·         Experience in a labor union, manufacturing environment
