Job Title: HVAC Engineer - Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection
Job Location: North Houston, TX
Job Duration: Open (contract to direct hire)
Pay Rate: $50-65+/Hour
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented HVAC Design Engineers to design, develop, and optimize heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for commercial, industrial, and/or residential projects. The HVAC Design Engineer will work closely with architects, project managers, and construction teams to ensure systems are energy-efficient, code-compliant, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design HVAC systems including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork, piping, and control strategies
· Prepare HVAC submittals, drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD/BIM software
· Perform heating and cooling load calculations and energy modeling
· Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (ASHRAE, local building codes, energy codes)
· Coordinate HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines
· Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs for design compliance
· Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases
· Evaluate existing HVAC systems and recommend upgrades or retrofits
· Support cost estimation, value engineering, and system optimization
· Participate in client meetings and design reviews as required
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field experience
· 3+ years of experience in HVAC system design (experience level may be adjusted)
· Proficiency with HVAC design software (e.g., Visio, AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, TRACE, or similar tools)
· Strong understanding of HVAC principles, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
· Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, IMC, local codes)
· Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Qualifications
· LEED accreditation or experience with high-performance/energy-efficient buildings
· Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection
· Experience in commercial, healthcare, industrial, schools, or data center HVAC design
Working Conditions:
· Office-based
· May require coordination with contractors and project stakeholders
· Standard business hours with potential overtime during project deadlines
