Hyperscaler Design Manager

Job Description

We are looking for a Hyperscaler Design Manager to join a team delivering large-scale data center projects for major hyperscale clients across domestic and international locations. This role is critical in representing the Owner’s interests and ensuring that design and construction activities are aligned with program objectives, standards, and timelines.

Role, Responsibilities, and Objectives

The responsibilities include:

• Act as the Owner’s representative, advisor, and primary point of contact throughout all design and construction phases of hyperscale data center projects.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholder groups and third-party consultants, design teams, and contractors to administer design and construction contracts.
• Coordinate, clarify, and track design packages across multiple stakeholders and vendors.
• Lead and manage design efforts across multiple domestic and international hyperscale projects.
• Manage escalation and resolution of complex design issues in alignment with program standards.
• Support contract negotiations in collaboration with Owner’s project management and legal teams.
• Develop and implement detailed design project plans prior to kickoff, including scope, schedule, budget, risk logs, communication plans, and team structures.
• Maintain and continuously update design schedules, budgets, and risk registers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure delivery and maintenance of key design documentation, including: Design review checklists

– Design comments and decision trackers

– Change control logs and risk logs

– Constructability reviews and value engineering reports

• Produce and manage project reporting, including:

– Monthly design reports

– Weekly design meeting minutes

– Construction administration reports

• Coordinate updates to design models and ensure alignment with construction progress and as-built conditions.
• Manage cost estimates in collaboration with stakeholders and third-party contractors, identifying scope gaps and changes.
• Coordinate value engineering initiatives and constructability reviews to optimize design efficiency and cost.
• Ensure Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are implemented and maintained throughout design.
• Oversee invoice processing, payment tracking, and financial reporting.
• Manage change orders, resolve disputes, and close outstanding project issues.
• Support scheduling, coordination, and management of third-party contractors and consultants.
• Participate in program-level meetings and travel as required to support project execution.

Qualifications

• Experience in a design firm or working on the Owner side for large-scale building and infrastructure projects.

• Strong project management experience, particularly during the design phase of complex projects.

• Experience working on hyperscale, data center, or mission-critical projects is strongly .

• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and contractors across multiple projects.

• Strong understanding of design processes, deliverables, and construction coordination.

• Familiarity with contract administration, project controls, and design governance.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience with international project coordination is an asset.

• Willingness to travel as required.
