Field Tech – Inside Plant (ISP) & Data Center Support
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Role Overview: We are seeking a Field Technician specializing in Inside Plant (ISP) operations and Data Center infrastructure. This role is focused on the installation, configuration, and advanced testing of telecommunications equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring high-capacity circuits are provisioned correctly and performing critical fiber characterization using OTDR and other precision test sets.
Core Responsibilities
- Data Center & ISP Installation: Assemble, configure, and install electronic components supporting Ethernet, DWDM, SONET, IP, and VOIP protocols specifically within Data Center and co-location environments.
- Fiber Characterization & Testing: Perform advanced testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic plants using OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), power meters, and light sets to ensure circuit integrity and performance.
- Provisioning & Turn-up: Configure electronic devices per Design Layout Records (DLR). Provision, test, and turn up network facility and customer-facing circuits according to strict industry methods and procedures.
- Power & Infrastructure: Connect and verify AC/DC power systems and backup functionality. Execute proper equipment grounding and cable management (isolating ground, power, and signal cables).
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of testing results and circuit details, performing accurate data entry into inventory and network management databases.
- Field Operations: Operate a company vehicle and maintain specialized test equipment. Participate in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 network reliability.
Key Requirements & Skill Set
- Experience: 2–5 years in ISP installation, provisioning, and repair.
- Technical Expertise: Full understanding of DWDM, CWDM, SIP, TDM, and TCP/IP applications.
- Specialized Tooling: Proficiency with OTDR, Fiber Optic Light meters, and specialized test sets (e.g., VeEx TX300/TX320).
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills for coordinating with engineering and management teams.
- Logistics: Valid State Driver’s License and the ability to work flexible hours (evenings/weekends) as project timelines dictate.
