IT Field Technician

Position Summary:

The IT Field Technician is responsible for providing on-site technical support, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, network equipment, and peripheral devices at client or company locations. This role ensures that IT systems operate efficiently and meet the needs of end-users with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Respond to service requests for hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues.

• Diagnose and repair desktops, laptops, printers, and other IT equipment.

• Provide Tier 1–2 support for operating systems, applications, and mobile devices.

• Perform routine maintenance and updates to prevent technical issues.

Installation & Configuration

• Install and configure workstations, servers, and peripheral devices.

• Set up wired/wireless network equipment, including switches, routers, and access points.

• Ensure compliance with company policies for hardware and software deployment.

Field Service & Client Interaction

• Travel to branch offices, data centers, or client sites to provide on-site IT services.

• Communicate effectively with end-users to understand and resolve issues.

• Document work performed, solutions implemented, and maintain service records.

System Maintenance & Security

• Perform regular patching, firmware updates, and backups as required.

• Maintain IT asset inventory and track equipment deployments.

• Follow cybersecurity protocols and escalate potential threats or breaches.

Collaboration & Reporting

• Work closely with the IT Service Desk, Network, and Systems Administration teams.

• Provide recommendations for system improvements and preventive measures.

• Deliver timely status updates to supervisors and document all activities in ticketing systems.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in IT or related field .

• 1–3 years of experience in IT support or field service roles.

• Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, networking basics (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP), and common IT hardware.

• Experience with help desk ticketing systems and remote troubleshooting tools.

• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to assigned sites.

Skills:

• CompTIA Security+, Network+, or other relevant IT certifications.

• Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and VoIP systems.

• Basic knowledge of cabling and physical network infrastructure.

• Familiarity with ITIL practices and service-level agreements (SLAs).

Working Conditions:

• Primarily field-based with travel to multiple locations as required.

• May involve occasional evening, weekend, or on-call work for urgent issues.

• Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs).
