Lead Electrical Engineer, Power Distribution & Mission-Critical Design
We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage electrical system design for new construction and renovation projects, including power distribution, lighting design, and control systems
- Serve as assistant project manager, overseeing project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and quality control
- Conduct comprehensive field investigations, code compliance reviews, and detailed site surveys
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior electrical engineers and design staff
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, structural, and architectural professionals
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships while supporting business development initiatives
- Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, and coordination studies
- Review construction documents and provide on-site construction administration support
- Ensure all designs meet NEC, UFC, UFGS, and other applicable electrical codes and standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
- 10-20 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design, specializing in power distribution, lighting systems, and controls
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit MEP for electrical design
- Working knowledge of AGI32 lighting design software and SKM PowerTools or EasyPower
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with proven project management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact directly with clients
- Field experience conducting site visits and assessments in active facilities
- U.S. Citizenship required due to federal government project access requirements
Qualifications
- Medium-Voltage (MV) electrical distribution design experience
- RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification
- Federal sector project experience with knowledge of UFC, UFGS, and FAR requirements
- Established client relationships in North Carolina, South Carolina, Mid-Atlantic, or South-Central United States
- Experience with higher education facilities and NC State Construction Office systems and processes
- Background in mission-critical facility design including data centers, hospitals, or government facilities
