Lead Engineer

Our client, a leading provider of data centre services, is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to join their team at a high-profile site in Surrey.

This is a key leadership role, responsible for supervising a technical shift team, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining resilient building services in a mission-critical environment.

 

The Role

The Lead Engineer will act as the senior technical representative on shift, supervising a multi-skilled M&E team within a mission-critical environment.

The role is responsible for overseeing planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and providing technical leadership during incidents and change management activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the technical shift team, including holiday and sickness cover, appraisals, and HR processes.
  • Plan and prioritise shift workloads to ensure timely delivery of PPMs, corrective maintenance, and reactive tasks.
  • Act as Authorised Person, managing permits to work and supervising specialist contractors.
  • Carry out electrical switching operations in line with authorisation levels and change control processes.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting safe systems of work
  • Maintain accurate shift handover records and provide regular performance updates to management.
  • Liaise with other service providers to ensure an integrated approach to facilities operations.

 

Candidate Profile

 

Essential

  • City & Guilds Electrical Competency (Parts 1 & 2) or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of building services with proven experience in critical environments.
  • Supervisory experience and strong customer relationship skills.
  • Working knowledge of permit-to-work systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and processes.
  • Experience using CMMS and BMS systems.

 

Desirable

  • Time-served electrical apprenticeship.
  • Previous experience working in data centres.
  • HV switching qualification/experience.
  • 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
  • Knowledge of ACoPs L8.
