Education, Certifications & Experience Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Certification: Professional Engineering (PE) registration is highly or may be required.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or power process design engineering, preferably in an EPC environment.

The Process Engineer III is responsible for executing and supporting the design and development of process systems for power and distribution projects. This includes gas turbines, renewables, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and transmission infrastructure. The role involves developing construction packages for projects such as 100MW power islands supporting data center operations. Process engineers don't do any 3D design, but they should be able to use Navisworks, the 3D viewing software the client is using, to share the model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project designs for optimal efficiency, with an emphasis on construction, operability, and maintenance.
  • Produce estimate-level designs and material take-offs to support cost estimation efforts.
  • Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and support cost estimation efforts.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and integrate safety into all aspects of process design.
  • Check calculations, reports, and studies to ensure accuracy, as well as conformance with codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practices.
  • Lead or support the development of construction packages for power systems.
  • Perform detailed process calculations, simulations, and equipment sizing.
  • Create and review equipment specifications, and datasheets.
  • Review fabrication drawings and other vendor submittals to ensure conformance to engineered drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure design alignment.
  • Conduct fieldwork to gather data, verify tie-ins, and support construction.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Travel as needed for site visits, client meetings, and training.

Skills & Competencies

  • Navisworks, the 3D viewing software the client is using, to share the model.systems, including gas turbines, renewables, and BESS.
  • Working knowledge of process simulation and hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, PROO/II, DYNSIM, CHEMCAD, HYSYS, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow PIPE-FLO).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and best practices.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel for project-related tasks.
