Lead Protection & Control Engineer (Substation)

Role Summary

The Lead Protection & Control Engineer will support Transmission & Distribution substations, responsible for the design and coordination of protection and control systems for utility‐scale projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead substation protection & control systems
  • Develop P&C deliverables including:
    • One‐line and three‐line diagrams
    • Protection and control schematics
    • Wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and tripping logic
  • Select and configure protective relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens)
  • Apply IEC 61850 substation automation standards
  • Coordinate with designers, relay setting engineers, and commissioning teams
  • Support FAT, SAT, outages, and commissioning activities
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and project leadership

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in substation Protection & Control
  • Hands‐on experience creating P&C drawings
  • Experience with protective relays and protection schemes
  • Utility, EPC, or OEM background
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850
  • Ability to work hybrid in Pleasant Hill, CA
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%

Qualifications

  • PE license or EIT
  • Experience with Aspen OneLiner, ETAP, or SKM
  • Experience with data centers, BESS, FACTS, or HVDC projects
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP standards

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule (2 days onsite)
  • Long‐term contract with stable workload
