Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Level 2 Telecommunications Technician to support network operations across Central Offices in the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Florida Gulf Coast areas. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with telecom equipment installation, upgrades, and removals, as well as solid working knowledge of AC/DC power systems commonly used in central office environments. This role involves traveling between sites, performing critical infrastructure work, and ensuring that telecommunications systems maintain optimal performance and reliability.Key Responsibilities
- Install, de-install, upgrade, and replace telecommunications equipment within Central Offices and remote facilities.
- Work with AC and DC power systems, including battery plants, rectifiers, distribution bays, grounding, and power cabling.
- Perform power cutovers, equipment turn-up, and migrations following established engineering documents and standards.
- Conduct site surveys, validate inventory, and document all work performed according to company guidelines.
- Troubleshoot equipment, power issues, circuits, and connectivity problems to support ongoing network operations.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, power schematics, and installation manuals.
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and NOC teams to complete assigned work on schedule.
- Maintain accurate records, including daily progress reports, test results, and site documentation.
- Travel regularly throughout the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Florida Gulf Coast service areas.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of hands-on telecommunications field experience, preferably in Central Office or carrier environments.
- Strong knowledge of DC power (−48V systems), power plants, fuse panels, battery strings, AC systems, and grounding.
- Experience installing and removing network elements such as switches, routers, transport gear, and legacy telecom systems.
- Familiarity with fiber, coax, and copper cabling, including proper routing, splicing coordination, and cable management.
- Ability to use standard telecom test equipment (OTDR, T-BERD, multimeters, power testers, etc.).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined or equipment-dense spaces.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Strong communication, documentation, and troubleshooting skills.
- Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, DC Power certifications, or manufacturer-specific training are a plus.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Field-based position with frequent travel between sites.
- Overtime, after-hours, or weekend work may be required for cutovers or emergency support.
- Work performed in telecom central offices, data centers, huts, and similar technical facilities.
