Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a growing team within a state-of-the-art data centre environment.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance
Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across critical electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems
Monitor, operate, and fault-find BMS, PMS, and CMS platforms to ensure continuous availability
Respond to system alarms and carry out emergency repairs as required
Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 / water hygiene standards
Supervise subcontractors, ensuring compliance with RAMS, site procedures, and contractual obligations
Manage and enforce Permit to Work systems
Ensure all activities meet statutory, safety, and contractual requirements
Technical Oversight & Commissioning
Oversee M&E contractors delivering services in line with MOP / SOP / EOP procedures
Support commissioning, witnessing, and handover of new infrastructure and upgrades
Coordinate and support P1 / P2 / P3 incidents in collaboration with Shift Managers and the Data Centre Manager
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain site logbooks and statutory compliance records
Conduct dynamic risk assessments and promote health & safety best practice
Prepare, review, and approve Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS)
Ensure accurate completion of maintenance records and CAFM task sheets
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a key point of contact for client services and attend operational meetings
Work closely with the Data Centre Manager and shift teams to ensure seamless service delivery
Deliver structured and detailed shift handovers via logs, reports, and status boards
Technical Scope
Electrical Systems:
Single and three-phase systems, UPS, generators, control panels, and switchgear
HVAC Systems:
AHUs, FCUs, split systems, chillers, and variable speed drives
Fire & Life Safety:
Fire detection and suppression systems
Water Systems:
Open and closed chilled water systems
Incident Management:
Support and manage unplanned faults and emergency situations
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential Experience
Proven experience within a critical environment (data centres, financial institutions, or similar)
Strong hands-on expertise with UPS, generators, HVAC, and BMS systems
Experience managing real-time incidents and fault conditions
Ability to coordinate complex maintenance and operational activities
Qualifications
City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Services or Maintenance
18th Edition Wiring Regulations
Emergency First Aid at Work
Desirable:
HV Authorised Person
Confined Space & Manual Handling
PASMA & IPAF
Personal Attributes
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong problem-solving ability and calm decision-making under pressure
Competent in preparing RAMS and conducting dynamic risk assessments
IT literate with experience using CAFM systems
Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or within a team
Flexible with shift work and overtime requirements
Comfortable working at height and using vertical access equipment
Additional Requirements
Security clearance (BPSS / SC) may be required

Competitive salary: £48,000 – £52,000 (DOE)
